Does anyone else do this? Especially when Clarence is playing I feel like
I feel the music better if I close my eyes. When I'm at a show I feel like
I'm wasting the moment - not WATCHING too and then I open them. Does
anyone else do this? |

Lisa,
Damm we are one in the same - backstreets the favorite song (if we must
chose one), same feeling about the shows, both from LI and now this. Yea,
I have to admit I close my eyes too, sometimes it just helps me see better
if you know what I mean. I just feel the music running through me when I
do that, like you, it is usually during a solo, guitar, sax or piano. I
must also admit, I do a lot of air guitar, air sax, air piano and air
drums at the show as well. |

PhillyGirl,
I would close my eyes on NYC Serenade if I ever got the chance to see
it live. Probably Incident too. However, when Bruce did the solo Promise
at the Asbury Park rehearsals, I did close em then with tears in em. Blew
me away. |

Lisa: Great subject. I always get a little embarressed when I get so into
that I close my eyes. There is no doubt that I can definitely feel it even
more intensely when I shut off one of the senses. I have to stop myself
sometimes because it looks a little weird. But, then I look up at Bruce
and his eyes are shut (as most singers are) at least half the time. |

I saw an interview with Branford Marsalies. In the interview he said that
when a person hears a song that means a lot to them mentally they're not
where they're hearing the song. They're in some special place that the
song brings them back to. |

Crazy Davey, I was in Philly when Bruce did Incident and Serenade in the
same show. I was in the very top row, so I was able to lean back against
the wall and close my eyes and just take it all in. It was truly magical. |

I have to add another one to the list. The Promise still ranks as the top
but second on the list was at the Nassau Coliseum show during the HT/LT
tour - we sat 9th row - the closest I got until 4th row at the Meadowlands
this year. The song was Living Proof - I had to close my eyes and just let
the song walk over me - also the one time that a Shane guitar solo really
got to me. The anguish and pain just swept through my body and after the
song ended - I was just a different person. |

I close my eyes when I kiss. Works better that way. Have you ever opened
your eyes while kissing at the same time as your partner? Weird is all I
can say. So I keep 'em closed. |

I close my eyes to a lot of songs in concert, "Backstreets",
"Thunder Road", "Bobby Jean", because they mean so
much to me. Especially during Thunder Road, I usually have my arms
upstretched to the heavens through the whole song, I swear it's a
religious experience. My husband thinks I'm nuts, but he's not a fan so
that's his problem. |

Of course, its only my humble opinion, and people will probably to throw
me off Greasy Lake for this, but I think everyone who's posting to this --
except Fred -- is out to lunch!
I mean, YOU'RE AT A SPRINGSTEEN CONCERT! You can listen to the music
with your eyes closed any time and any place (just please not while
driving..)! If you're at concert -- which has both AUDIO and VISUAL
components -- and you're not experiencing the VISUAL portion, YOU'RE
MISSING IT!
Plus, you will looked all whacked-out, drug-induced, and freaky. And
somebody might rightly call the guys with the white jackets with long
arms.
Fred -- thanks for the great advice. That's what I've been doing wrong
all these years! Can't wait to try it out!
PS Before you all try to kick me off, would it help if I said I wasn't

First of all, like the laughs up above. It is okay to make fun of
ourselves. We are all obsessive or we would not be here.
Do I close my eyes. Yes, because the music overwhelms and carries me,
but I force myself to open them for I do not want to miss anything. (For
instance another bra on the stage Sat. that Bruce quickly kicked off the
stage.)
Anyways, let the music carry you to wherever you want to be. It is
never the same as listening to a CD. |

A few years ago, well it was 30+ to be percise , I would dance with my
eyes closed. I felt like my entire body lifted off the ground and I was
transported to the ceiling. I'd glide around the club and it was a free
feeling like riding a wave. Bruce and my friend Ricky were the only leads
that could take me to this height. I would open my eyes to bring me down
to earth and connect, and close them again and off I went. Maybe that's
why Bruce referred to me as Hazy Davy?
I'm off to MSG on Tuesday night with my friend Richard Blackwell. I
asked Richard to bring his congas. I'm hoping that will inspire Bruce to
play NYC Serenade and invite the Brotherman on stage?

It's been said, but not stressed as much as I think it should.
I was at the Hartford show...the one "Backstreets" said might be
the best from them ever(I've been to about 20 and it really was the best
I've seen)...anyway, "Racing in the Street" was truely magical.
They took a minute before they started the song-I wouldn't be surprised if
that very rendition appears on a new live album.
Plus, I've been real lucky to see "Sandy"---that is a truely
magical experience live. |

Hey Brilliantly --
Just a warning on your last post --
I've never been to New York, but I have lived in a couple of rough
towns (Detroit, MI; Leesville, Louisiana)...
Ya gotta be careful about the eyes closed/eyes open thing in the men's
room... just don't have your eyes be TOO open!
Or by the end of your rest break, you might WISH it was only a yak
tongue coming at you -- and you might not get out in time to hear
Backstreets/Jungleland...
This is all in the interest of public safety, folks... |

Be careful about "nailing" those security guards... while
that may be a viable option to get down to the front row or backstage, MrS
may disapprove.
And one of them could be a stalker and follow you home.
Hey, MiamiMark -- HOW EXACTLY did you get backstage at 6-20? Not MrsS'
questionable technique, I hope...
And if so, did you keep your eyes open? |

In jersey I was behind the stage but lower down for one night. I know the

really stuck looking at their backs. So I guess I'll just close my eyes.
