Hey, everyone. Just got back from NYC where I took my 12-year-old daughter to her first ever concert (6/27). This summer, she'll be seeing Christina Aguilera (spelling?), so I knew I had to act fast! What a great experience (especially for me!) to see the show through her eyes. And what a show it was... Here are a few of my reactions from the experience.

Best comment by far (before show): "Gee, dad, I didn't know so many people liked him!" BINGO!! There you go!! That really was my whole purpose! "See?" I was showing her, "I'm not the only one!!" I honestly believe she thought I was!

MIB: We saw them!! They were in our section. My advice to my daughter, "Act sad that we're so far away. Act cute...DON'T LOOK AT THEM! Are they coming? DON'T LOOK!"
Unfortunately, I didn't work, but trying for MIB's did give us the opportunity to watch the entire arena fill up, and it did give my daughter a chance to see me in a new light. "Where are they now? DON'T LOOK!!"

Worst excuse to buy myself a t-shirt: Where we were, the A/C was on, especially before it got crowded. She was cold, so I suggested getting her a nice new Bruce t-shirt to put over the shirt she was wearing. She picked one out, and then I suggested getting an extra large. You know how those darn things shrink!!

Her favorite songs: She loved "American Skin (41 Shots)" which I had explained to her before the show. Also loved "Trapped." Hey, smart kid!

An encore? During "Light of Day", I told her that this was the last song before the encores. Half way through it, I think maybe during the Detroit medley section, she asked if this was the encore. When I explained it to her she said, incredulously, "This is still the SAME SONG?" It did seem to last forever.

Little guy with the funny mouth: Yeah, she loved Nils.

Weird looking guy with the bandana: Well, that pretty much sums up Steve, don't you think?

Her favorite moment: Bruce doing a little dance around the microphone after boasting that Frank Sinatra, who sang "New York, New York", was really from New Jersey.

My favorite moment: One little word: "Woo!" yelled out as she was clapping after "Thunder Road". She had been quietly taking it all in, looking around a lot at the crowd, acting a little remote at times (not knowing all of the songs. I mean, I don't exactly crank "Mary Queen of Arkansas" during cookouts in the backyard). But that little "Woo!" told me that she had been moved and affected by the ministry of rock n' roll.

What a night. My kid sitting there in a way-big "Born to Run" t-shirt cheering for the greatest rock n' roll performer of all time. My kid, sharing in one of the most intensely personal experiences of my life with her old dad. My kid. I'm still glowing.

Hey, I even dragged her to Mustang Harry's before the show where she signed the banner!

I hope many of you get to have a similar experience with a kid that you love.

Thanks,
BillsBruce

BillsBruce - you sound like one proud pappa. What a great story and I am so glad you got to share the experience with your kid.

Heres hoping that Bruce and the boys (and girl) will still be rocking when my son is old enough to go (he is only one).
