Okay this is a bit of a morbid topic; but what Bruce song do you want played at your funeral. I am leaning towards the acoustic version of No Surrender. But Promised Land has a nice ring to it too.

I want two: Independence day and Racing in the Streets. The first coming in and the second going out.

Sorry for the un-Bruce song but for me it's "It'll be easier in the Morning"- an Irish band called Hothouse Flowers! Bruce would like it right Norhtside Johnny????

ok, Tman, people who are old-timers on this Board already know that I played "Bobby Jean" and "No Surrender" at the funeral of my best friend 4 years ago.

But as for my own funeral, My family and those who know me best already have specific instructions: if anything ever happens to me, I want "No Surrender" and "My Beautiful Reward" and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" played before, the Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want" during, and "Born To Run" on the way out. I don't want anyone except ME to EVER do my makeup, so it has to be a closed coffin, and in lieu of flowers, money should be sent to the local animal shelter. My ashes are to be scattered over the ocean.

Am I morbid or what???

What type of disease is it that you have and are you sure there is no cure?

Hey Redhead....how about "Havin a Party" at the wake.

are we running THAT low on topics?? geesh...

I don't care what they do at my funeral really...I don't even care if I have one, but to play along I'll say GOOBYE TO YOU by PATTI SMYTHE followed by HIGHWAY TO HELL by ACDC and then LOHAD by BRUCE

that should give them all a chuckle followed by a smile.

Hey JZ, You like the Flowers? I was just listening to them yesterday. Hope you played that song after your team lost the other night!!!

Any other bands from here that you like?

(By the way, I'm sure Bruce would approve!)

northside--

was the band 'the alarm' Irish?? or maybe Welsh? I used to really like them a lot.

What's up over there w/U2? We need a new cd and tour-I've never caught them live.

do you claim 'the cranberries' as well? they have some good stuff

Yeah the Flowers are brilliant as well as the Waterboys & of course U2!! I was at JFK when Bruce joined U2 for "Stand By Me" Awesome! The Pouges - I also had a record from An Emotional Fish that was good! Too many to name! Isn't Patti's mother from Ireland?

The Alarm are Welsh. They're currently doing some kind of reunion tour at the moment. The Cranberries are from Limerick so yes, they are Irish but most of us reckon Dolores is from a different planet altogether!

As for U2, we keep hearing about the new record. Should be available in the Autumn. Bono turned 40 last week and he's been popping up all over the place lately. He's been gone for a while so when he starts showing up for shows and events it usually means a new record is in the can and he can go out at night again!

They were all given the freedom of the city around St. Paddys Day and they performed an acoustic set at the ceremony. Probably the smallest crowd they've played to in years but a good little gig.

As for your faves, JZ, An Emotional Fish are no more which is a shame and Shane McGowan from The Pogues is closer to death than ever before. Apparently he's cutting down on the booze in favour of heroin. Not good.

Have you guys heard of The Corrs? They are sooooo bad. 3 sisters and a brother singing cheesey pop songs. They are huge in England and Ireland at the moment and it's only a matter of time before they take it to the US.

I can only apologise in advance!

SHEEESH!!!
I was so psyched to be able to finally add my two cents to this board after only being allowed (thanks to bizarre rules and crapola) to read the posts- it was killing me!- and now I find you're talking about your funeral songs. Heck, I know the tour is winding up, but hang in there everyone!!
Oh, and as for me, I'm going for Thundercrack if I'm feeling like putting the funeral party in a twisted frame of mind- "Her brains they rattle and her bones they shake"?? I think to avoid controversy I'd have to go with Thunder Road or No Surrender and then to help the masses cope with the HUGE grief (ha ha!) I'd have Take 'Em As They Come playing at the wake or whatever feast is held afterwards.

northside-
the coors had their shot here--had a hit about 2 yrs ago-can't remember what-and their newest stuff flopped. we're safe.

tomwilson-
I used to wear out the alarm's 'change' casette back in '90-'91...'sold me down the river'...and their prior one, w/'rescue me', also had 'rain in the summertime', another bruce-like tune

The Corrs are lovley to look at Johnny! They actually played support for The Stones last year!!! Bono was at the second show in Phila. But you are right cheesy - my 9 y.o. daughter loves them though!

You see, that's the probelm JZ. Once the kids get intrested that's the end of it. Over here we're saturated by boy (and girl) bands. None of them have any redeeming qualities but the kids like em so they sell out stadiums in ways Bruce could only dream of. I swear some of our boy bands make Backstreet Boys sound like The Beatles.

But you're right, The Corrs sure are easy on the eyes. I forgot to mention that when I was condemning them!!! Talk about redeeming qulities!

Apologies to everyone else for talking about crap (although good looking) Irish bands on a thread to do with funeral songs. Maybe JZ and I should be talking in private!

JZ, I'm at waggs@iol.ie
