Some of my fav Bruce lines:
"you ain't a beauty but hay your all right"
honest- you ain't perfect but I still like you
"I swear I'd drive all night just to buy you some shoes"
I whould go to great troubles to by you something you really need
"... a sadness all her own from which no man can keep Candy safe."
"togeather Wendy we can live with the sadnes I'll love you with all the madness in my soul"
"to say I'll make your dreams come true whould be wrong but maybe darlin' I can help them along"
To me these are some of the most romantic lines in history. If a guy said any of this about me I'd melt. So I played them for my best friend. She said they where insulting! "Shoes? Why the hell whould you want some guy to buy you shoes?" "Why whould you want him to say that it means he thinks your ugly!" "Live with the sadness? Don't you want to be happy?" ect. ect.
Does anyone else have problems convinceing their loved one's that Bruce is more romantic thwn the Bard?

Marybeth, you are wise beyond your years
Yes, those are great lines that have stood the test of time. Remember greatness is not
always the most popular or esay to understand
I hope someday you find a person your own age
that feels the spirit like you do.
Till, then Tramps like us!!

well, you really enlightened me on the "you aint a beauty..." line, 'cause I always thought any girl would smack you for saying that....in my head I always sing "WE ain't BEAUTIES but hey, WE'RE alright..."
But in this light, I see it's appeal...

If you want to convice your friend, try I Wish I Were Blind or If I Should Fall Behind....

"Let me in I wanna be your friend I wanna guard your dreams and visions...." WOW. Um, sure. Guard away.

"I wanna know if love is wild, I wanna know if love is real...."

"Strap your hand cross my engines" Heh heh. I like a little inudendo with my romance. ;)

All of If I Should Fall

"your heart like a diamond shone..."

"I got a new suit of clothes and a pretty red rose for a woman I can call my friend..."
THAT is the essence of romance, I think. Any marriage as good as the one B and P seem to have is based on friendship, I'm sure.

"If you're ready to take that long walk...." I love the singer's empathy with the difficulty of Mary's decision here.

"Tonight my baby and me, we're gonna ride to the sea, and wash these sins off our hands...." A light of hope and the end of a dark tunnel. Again, a man concerned for his woman, saddened because she is.

That's all for now. :) Great lines, Mary Beth, and a great topic. Enjoy your show!!

I think most girls would agree that if a man said he'd drive all night just to buy us some shoes...aaahhhh! I can never have enough shoes!

There isn't much I wouldn't do for my man just to hear any of these lines--

"And if you hold me tight we'll be riders girl on the night"

"Well I'm riding on the power and livin' on the promise in your last kiss"

"The road is dark and it's a thin thin line, but I want you to know I'll walk it for you anytime"

"...one hand's tremblin' over my heart, it's pounding baby like it's gonna bust right on through and it ain't gonna stop till I'm alone again with you"

"In a world of doubt and fear I wake at night and reach to find you near, Lost in a dream you caught me as I fell, I want more than just a dream to tell"

"Oh you were my sun in the morning and my moon at night, when you put your arms around me made me feel ALRIGHT"

"Hold still now darlin'. Hold still for God's sake! 'Cause I got me a promise I ain't afraid to make. My love will not let you down."

What a perfect thing to say to someone who's had their heart broken too many times. And the emotion he puts into that line! I could listen to it over and over again and I still get goose bumps!

"Someday girl, I don't know when, we're gonna get to that place

where we really want to go and we'll walk in th sun" I actually spoke those words to my wife when we were living 3000 miles apart in 1997 and didn't know what ws ever going to happen to us. She cried and we got engaged.

We still haven't got to that place yet though.

"I wear my love darlin' without shame I'd be proud if you would wear my name"

"Rain storm and dark clouds, Well mow they don't mean a thing

If you've got a girl that loves you and who wants to wear your ring"

"Yeah I know I aint nobody's bargain, but hell a little touch up and a little paint..."

Basically all of Across The Border but specifically tehe last verses:

"For what are we Without hopes in our hearts

That someday we'll drink from God's blessed waters

And eat the fruit fro mthe vine I know love and fortune will be mine

Somewhere across the border"

Mary Beth,
Not only do I have problems convincing my my loved ones that Bruce is romantic, I have problems convincing them that he is not altogether awful! I think I am about your age, and I understand the part about getting your friends to understand. Many of my friends are afraid of anything that is not mainstrean pop music...as for romantic lines, many of my favs have already been said, but i'll just add another one or two

"at night on them banks I'd lie and pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take"

"johnny sits up alone and watches her dream on, dream on"

does "hey li'l girl with the blue jeans on...wanna ram-rod with you baby 'till half-past-dawn" qualify as romantic??

Most of the great lines have been mentioned already, but I always liked "I looked straight at her and she looked straight back."

When you're young and looking, often the only thing in the whole wide world you could ever want is a straight look back.

"a kiss to seal our fate tonight, a kiss to prove it all night"

is anyone else getting gooebumps when they read this post??????

Since I posted on the tough guy link, I figured I should show the other side as well.

Probably one of his best (using the solo alternative lyrics:

"On the streets tonight, the lights are growing dim, the walls of my room are closing in, but its good to see your smiling face, and to hear you laughter again. I wanna sleep neath the twilight, in my lover's bed, with a wide open country in our hearts and these romantic dreams in our head"

I've got a dollar in my pocket
There aint a cloud up above
I've got a picture in a locket
That says baby I love you

If you didn't look then boys
Then fellas don't go looking now
'Cause her she comes a walking
All that heaven will allow

Some days all I had to say to myself was, "I've got a dollar in my pocket...." And realize that life is pretty good.
Of course then I would think of,

...full of the grace and beauty of God's hand
I wish I were blind when I see you with your man.

Romance is both joyful and hearwrenching. Bruce reminds me of that constantly.

First time poster, short time lurker, long time Bruce fan.

I used to tell the girls that is they were rough and ready for love, well then honey, I was tougher that the rest. But I belive that this one line sums it up best -
I'd Prove It All Night . . .
