New album and E Street Band tour in 2012!!!

Published 2011-11-21

Is this a first ever? Bruce Springsteen just announced a new tour and a new album to appear in 2012 without issuing one of those Shorefire Media press releases. The message with this delightful, if still rather sketchy news, just showed up on his official website yesterday along with  Facebook and Twitter messages. A new album is almost finished, a world tour is being planned, it will be w ... Read more

Bruce the houserocker rocked the house

Published 2011-11-04

Last night, in the first of two highly anticipated shows, Bruce and Joe Grushecky tore the roof off the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall. From a setlist standpoint, it was a typical Bruce/Joe show featuring lots of their common war horses like "Never Be Enough Time", "Atlantic City", "Murder Incorporated", and "Code of Silence". But for those present ... Read more

The wait

Published 2011-10-02

We are approaching the end of another year, and it looks like it may come and go with the only new releases being a separate DVD of The Promise documentary and a re-release of Essential. Sure, rumors of a new album “soon” appear at regular intervals, but so far nothing tangible has emerged and there may be nothing to it.

While this prolonged silence may seem unbeara ... Read more

Top 10 Big Man Sax Solos

Published 2011-07-15

Clarence Clemons’ all too early departure from this world has regrettably forced us to view his work knowing that that’s it. There won’t be another blast from his golden horn, no new solos, no more interpretations of old solos. Fortunately, he did leave behind 40 years’ worth of amazing work in the shape of official releases, bootleg recordings, and what is stored in the ... Read more

As all of you will have heard by now, Clarence “Big Man” Clemons passed away on Saturday evening as a result of the stroke he had a week ago. Never again will he blast the “Jungleland” solo from up on that stage. Never again will he wrap his arms around Bruce. Never again will his smile light up a 50,000 seat stadium.

The loss of Clarence is devastating. To Bruce ... Read more

New book presents top 100 albums by New Jersey artists

Published 2011-05-15

It may come as a surprise to some, but New Jersey's music history is so much more than Bruce Springsteen. In his new book, award winning music journalist Gary Wien makes a case for just that by listing the 100 best albums by New Jersey artists between 2001 and 2010. Of course, even without having read the book, I'm sure Bruce takes up a fair amount of pages, bu ... Read more

Dave commenting on this: Really enjoying it so far, but only up to the Darkness sessions. Amazing writing for an amateur!
Charlene Linden commenting on this: I want to read it more than ever. When I saw him play at my university (Clark University, Worcester MA Oct.6 1974, 6 days before my 17th) I was frightened and lonely. I was younger than other students because I had graduated HS early. The tickets were free with our activity fee. I thought - oh he's going to be another self indulgent singer song writer. The 70s were full of those. My room mate could see that I was hesitant, and assured me that I'd love him. And I did. I felt a spiritually uplifting and joyous experience, like no other. This was more than music. This became a transformative event. One I would repeat many times. I am not at all shocked that Bruce is still a tortured soul - more than the bouts with depression that we all know. Along with the late Lou Reed, he is responsible for some of the best American rock and roll. I can't wait until the snow lets up. I NEED this book!
Mikey commenting on this: Interesting thoughts, I even agree with some of them, which might scare you. Thanks for the review
