Fab five Freddie told me everybody's fly

I believe in Blondie
"I found out a long time ago what a woman can do to your soul
Ah, but she can't take you anyway, You don't already know how to go"

Serious answer: I don't. I no longer believe in god or religion in a way I once did. When I was 14 I believed in the rapture for a bit. I was going to an evangelical church with friends and they would show a movie called The Rapture on movie night. Then they'd do a whole "come to Jesus" circle. Through that church I found the LDS church and resonated with a message that wasn't about scaring me into anything. Fear isn't a good motivator for me.

It's the best answer I can give as to why I don't. I'm sure someone else will come in and explain my view in a more succinct manner. Seems to be the way around here :D

No, I don't. Even when I was a devout christian, there were certain things that were preached that were absolutely so far beyond the realm of blind faith believability that I just refused to swallow them. That was one of those.
Since the New Deal, republicans have been on the wrong side of every issue of concern to ordinary Americans; Social Security, the war in Vietnam, equal rights, civil liberties, church-state separation, consumer issues, public education, reproductive freedom, national health care, labor issues, campaign-finance reform, the environment and tax fairness. No political party could remain so consistently wrong by accident. The only rational conclusion is that, despite their cynical "family values" propaganda, the republican party is a criminal conspiracy to betray the interests of the American people in favor of plutocratic and corporate interests, and absolutist religious groups.

As long as baggers, bigots and bible thumpers control the repub party, they are doomed to go the way of the Dodo.

Whenever I read LDS, my mind says LSD.
It's like when I read the word "lawmakers" ....my brain says "LAWNmakers"".
Half the bar is calling out for Born to Run/ the other half is calling out for Born to Lose/ Baby we were born to choose.

When my daughter was little, I didn't disavow her belief in Santa Claus. She found out for herself. As for the millions of adults who still believe in their mythology, who am I to draw the blinders from their eyes? For many folks, this is the validation for their own lives. It would be presumptuous for me to draw conclusions about a person's worth to society based on their beliefs, as long as they do not attempt to force them upon anyone else.

I believe in rapture, but not in THE rapture.
"In my dreams these nights I see you my friend
The way you looked back then
On a night like this
I know that girl no longer exists
Except for a moment in some stranger's eyes
Or in the nameless girls in cars rushing by
That's where I find you tonight
And in my heart you still survive."

Is that the same 40% who blindly & unquestioningly believe anything the US Government tells them?
If I don't hang round
Our old gambling grounds
It does not mean I have forgotten
We believed, and I still do

When planning to get married, looking at dates in May, I checked on the date of the FA Cup Final, to make sure we avoided that (eventually settling on 13th June)...
I told a friend that it was unreasonable to have a wedding on that day because, even if you weren't interested yourself, it would be unfair on others...
I then pressed my point by saying that I didn't think Jesus would return on Cup Final Day, or at least if he did, he would wait for the final whistle.
My friend replied, "And I suppose you think he wouldn't return during a Bruce concert either?"
"Oh, I don't know", I said, "I think that might be quite appropriate!"

As for "the Rapture", God knows...

What's really funny is that I just did the song in a honky Tonk dive bar we go to round here. I was amazed I pulled it off and that the crowd enjoyed it.
