Now, is it within the power of Congress? Well, the power of Congress is to regulate interstate commerce. Is health care commerce among the states? Nobody except maybe Clarence Thomas doubts that. So health care is interstate commerce. Is this a regulation of it? Yes. End of story.

People living in our post slavery/post feudal world are very uneasy about national governments and/or courts that would force/mandate them into product and/or service contracts merely as a consequence of being a citizen or legal resident. After all, this is highly dranconian in nature - and such a move may emanate from a poitical-right source just as easy as it could emanate from a political-left source. There is no political spectrum monopoly on well-intentioned zealots.

People living in a highly democratic country (like, for example, Switzerland) might not be too concerned about the above - because the Swiss have the ability to quickly overturn the government or court via a simple-majority referendum. But there are not that many countries that operate like Switzerland does.

There aren't many countries that operate like the Swiss indeed. Some days I wish I lived in a great European country.
Now I work down at the carwash where all it ever does is rain
