Okay guys,
some of you are wanting details.. eheheh of course you do... So I'm not going through the songs one by one discussing the intricacies of every single note etc, I thought I'd share the emotions we went through as this show unfolded.

When I quickly dipped my toe in the lake last night, immediately after the show, I couldn't help but grin. At first people were thinking this was some sort of hoax... that opening was wayyyyy too crazy to be real, right? And that is exactly what happened to us.

The previous night had been good, and certainly Sandy and piano Independence Day were gorgeous, but I had come away thinking a little... (despite having danced my socks off, soaked in sweat - no airco and for those of you who know my usual exuberance you'll not be surprised that I was actually competing with Bruce on who was soaked more) okay so this tour seems pretty much the same so far. So we were expecting that Bruce would shake it up a little, but not too much and ended up guessing the opening song... We hadn't come up with the Ties... nice one.

We were immediately UP for it.. ready for We take Care .. hang on ... what ... eh.... No Surrender? Wow, okay great let's party party! Then for a little air, let's catch our breath here... No way, are you real? Two Hearts .. man my heart, my legs, my lungs .. Bruce what's wrong with ya?!! Okay I'll go along with this one... let me just pinch myself to check I am actually not dreaming.

Boom! Yep, that's my jaw.. on the floor. Just picking it up now ... DOWNBOUND TRAIN ... NOOOO!!! There was a huge sign for it at the back of the pit.... I guess you didn't need those reading glasses for that one ;-) You are getting to me boy, you really are.

You what??? Isn't that... isn't that .. CANDY's ROOM? No way!!!!! Air guitars at the ready!!! Here we go... I'll deal with the fist-pump muscle ache later then... not to mention the old calf muscles from jumping up and down so hard.

Six hugs, tears and cuddles later, with any one around me who even just looks at me ... I was finally content to hear We Take care ... Did I just read Bruce's lips? Did he just call out Something in the Night... Mama mia I'm in floods of tears by now...

YES YES back to normality. Good .. that's a boy Bruce...

Mais OUI, we have the Spirit.. you bet ya... But what's young Jakie doing .. what's with this whisper and soft reply on the sax ... Bruce, are you just playing the most stunning, intimate, beautiful version, tender and sweet ... ? Man oh man. That's okay coz you know, I can handle a bit of emotion...

No way!!! Incident - FULL BAND - Where's Andrew??!!! And then, for all those doubters .. Bruce plays his solo beautifully, lovingly, concentrated, flawlessly ... but what's happened to the audience? They've gone al quite, they are all goosebumping, feeling it... loving it and we're all one, in this magic moment. But Bruce stop it now, coz I think my heart might just break.

Because the Night - awesome awesome Nils but finally something 'familiar again' ... Good I'm settling in now. Thanks for the water security.. is making this night a little easier, physically..

ROLL CALL - and we are all there. The band, the audience, the Red Headed woman, those who left us ...

Something in the Night?! But I haven't got any vocal chords left!! Rip open my chest and tear out my heart right now, why don't ya?!

Working on the highway.. FUN man!! Fun... eheheh...

No Bruce, you CANNOT be serious... YOU CANNOT BE --- SERIOUS!!! I'm Going Down. Damn right I am. I'm a goner, I'm done, I'm broke... But it's not even half way yet ..

Easy Money, with sexy sexy Patti, giving Bruce TOL laldie.. great to see. The whole evening Bruce has been eyeing up his red-headed woman and the spark was definitely alive between those two. Good on ya Pats.. and I think tonight was ever so slightly more in tune too. Not quite shackled and drawn .. but I am glad to hear this song. I like it!

Waiting .. oh as long as it's not another awful screeching child who does the whole 'I'm a star thing' ... Oh that girl is quite sweet. Out of tune but genuine.. phew... the old knee slide needs a bit of practice but she is cute. Good choice tonight.

I REALLY Like the Way you Do the Thing you do BRUCE ... (and the whole extended intro too - and KEEP IT in Europe... do not retire it.. it's awesome- love the harmonies the powerful line of singers .. keep it!!) And yes, why don't you have a little dance with Pats?! Right so you are. Just let me swing my hips, and shake my booty coz I am having the time of my life!!!

Now what do you do that for... For you? Solo? on the Piano? I get it.. you ARE fed up with the same faces at the front.. you are trying to floor me for once and for all. Well, you got me baby, coz I can't talk rationally anymore, I would be selling my kids right now - hell give them away - if it meant this moment could last forever.... And the voice, crystal clear.. and beautiful.. that's MUSIC - real music...

I don't know what to do.. my heart has just broken .. in multiple pieces .. I'm a puddle of jelly, emotional wreck ... if that was not the longest and most stunning version of Racing I have ever FELT - I don't know. I was 14 when I first heard this live on a bootleg (cassette at the time) I thought if I heard it once I'd die and go to heaven. I have heard it quite a few times...but not like tonight... tonight ... it goes on and on and I can't stop crying crying crying ...

The Rising.. I'll just stand there. Excuse me Bruce, coz I'll gather myself up from the floor. That okay with you?

So I'll jump and pump like a mad woman - two songs ... who says I'm getting to old for this? Age is a state of mind that's all. I'll ignore the throbbing in my chest, in my legs ... I'm on that Train ... with Two Hearts.. no with 14,000 of them ... the best ticket I ever bought...

And then Bruce, you do what got me all those years ago (almost 30 years) .. you talk. To us! and you share, genuinely share a little of you. You address your mum, your sister, your mother in law and the love is tangible, and we are proud of you, of your mum of the family you talk about. And yes, god dammit we are glad We Are Alive. And we'll live through the bad times and we'll hold our heads up and our dignity high!

Thunder Road ... no need to sing Bruce, we'll do it for you... no need for the telleprompter... just follow us... All 14,000 of us, as one voice rising rising like a gigantic choir of passion and love.

No worries.. we are NOT fatigué!!! We'll jump up and down for another 5 songs. Seven nights to Rock? Ehhh, this one night will do me forever!! Let's hit that piano with your head, your bum why not??!! It's rock and roll and we love it! And some day, we'll have a few drinks and talk about this GLORIOUS day!! Oh gosh your little girl IS cute - Dancing with her old dad like that, and you are soooo proud - of course you are.. and all of us old folkies are thinking of our children back home, some of them next to us sharing the moment and how proud we are and we'll dance with you.. there's a spark... it's happening somewhere, but tonight it's happening RIGHT HERE!!!

Bruce somewhere - was it Tenth Avenue? You decide to let us carry you... all the way from the back of the pit to the front. And we hold you, we don't let you drop.. we make you fly! It's the proudest, the bestest thing to see...you - carried on hands, held up like a trophy for all to see... this man ... this man .. he's ours, we are his .. THIS MAN ... I can't - I haven't got the words.

thank you
forever

my heart

always!
There's something happening somewhere
baby I just know that there is

Great post sounds like one hell of a night. There really have been some epic shows on this European tour, probably too many to mention. I have seen 2 stunning shows not this one sadly, but guess what? The greatest live performer and band ever, will do it all again in some other cities and add to this ever growing list of stunning shows. Hopefully all of these shows will be recorded and we will get another live box set to enjoy all of these rare songs over again. Live box set 2012/13 anyone?

Just to add, something like 15 different songs from Paris night 1. Unbelievable most groups don't change 15 songs on an entire tour.

I wanted to be madly jealous but decided to be sooo glad for those who were there. If I behave myself, maybe Vienna will be memorable too. But only one night, so night two rule doesn't apply...
How can an old man play such shows and live?

Do not despair our love is real

Wonderful stuff P.........May this feeling NEVER leave you/us.

Eaactly why we do it Night after Night....Week after Week....Month after Month....Year after Year....

One of the best parts of this tour for me has been the amount of youngsters (e.g. teenagers etc) I have seen, not only at the shows but really getting into
the whole show, old material and the new stuff, the new album certainly seems to have hit a chord with the younger generation.
Bruce has built a whole new generation of fans almost as committed as yourself.

There will be those still around, that will cite The Vietnam Vets Show, maybe the 75 Bottom Line shows, or something from 78 or the Glory Days of The River tour as shows that form part of the legend. I was too young, all I could do in that day was read about it, and wait for my time to come.

Getting to the top in this business is a lot easier these days than when it was back in the day, staying at the top is the hard part. A world full of here today gone tomorrow Pop Stars, who write nothing and say even less. Popular Music bar the odd one or two artists who have plied their trade, and paid their dues, is as irrelevant today as ever. People download songs to their Ipods and not to their hearts, the brain is bypassed.

Bruce Springsteen as we know is 62 years old, yet plays with the enthusiasm and excitement of a 16 year old kid, getting into his girlfriends knickers for the first time, and gives more in 15 minutes than others can even think to give in a lifetime.

He aspires higher, he reaches higher, and he tries harder, and as the years pass, he continues to evoke passions and emotions from within, that for this fan never materialise anywhere else. On the 5th of July in the Bercy Paris, backed by tried and tested troubadours, and a Band to die for, I saw him play for me the greatest show of his life.

And now the battle to hang on to every second, is the hardest part.

There is no need to gloat. no need for any 'where you there in Paris 2012' discussions, because all I want to do is rejoice in the fact that the bells of freedom are still ringing, and there ringing louder than ever.

Bruce Springsteen in 2012, is more vital, more relevant, and undoubtedly more important than any other artist in the world at this given time, and will continue to be so for years to come.

Yes I agree and this tour is this version of this band at their best. NO question. I've been watching this brilliant man for over 25 years now and yet two of my all time fav shows have happened in the last month. Incredible artist and the use of festivals to bring in and inspire new blood has certainly worked in Europe. There is a level of respect and excitement for seeing this man live that hasn't been there since the 70s/80s. I don't feel like gloating over the glories I have seen. I am just so grateful to be here and able to witness so much joy in a room. I don't know how long this ride will last but I am going to savour every moment.

Thank you so much for the beautiful post.
Drove back home to Belgium through the night and then into the office all day...still running on adrenaline (but running very low now...)
Wanted to put up a modest little post about a perplexingly memorable evening but you've said it all and much better than I ever could.
Was stressed all day yesterday working the role call team (they needed someone who spoke french ) but what a reward afterwards!

My first post........

Last night..........Can't stop smiling, can't go to bed, watching For You on you tube.......:)
Still emotional from last night! Reading this thread put tears in my eyes.......

We all know how great the show was, but what made it even more memorable for me were the people I met in my 3 days in Paris - from England, Wales, Finland, France, Holland - young and old - some seeing there first shows, some over 100.

We queued in the and rain in our pit lines, shared drinks, food and stories. What a great group of people Bruce brings together. I will miss it all so much when the band finally call it a day....

So, I'll be travelling on my own again in Dublin - looking forward to making some more great friends, and that magical 2nd night...........

I love reviews from the heart

Okay guys,
some of you are wanting details.. eheheh of course you do...

Mamam mia I'm in floods of tears by now...

YES YES back to normality. Good .. that's a boy Bruce...

Mais OUI, we have the Spirit.. you bet ya... But what's young Jackie doing .. what's with this whisper and soft reply on the sax ...

I can't - I haven't got the words.

thank you
forever

my heart

always!

I love reviews from the heart, and this one is one of the best.
A great read, thanks for posting it was brill.

Word - great review.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with approval of their own conscience" - C. S. Lewis

I LOVE your review - it sums up what I wanted to say. The show was phenomenal!

I sent this to my friends, most of whom don't understand my passion for The Boss:

Well, first of all I have 6 shows under my belt now on this tour since April. I thought the atmosphere on the first of 2 nights at Madison Square Garden was unreal, rivalling the best atmosphere I've ever felt in the Nou Camp, Barcelona in 2008. The second night was slightly less buzzing, but Bruce still put on a wonderful show.

Onto the more recent shows, Sunderland? Pretty standard setlist but a powerful performance, then Manchester where I thought they were wonderful - so good in fact that I didn't think I would see a better show this year.

Paris Night 1 I'd always anticipated would be a great show, perhaps the best of my Bruce tour, because of the 4th of July connection. We got all the 'Independence Day' songs as anticipated (which made it a bit special) but it didn't reach the levels of Manchester in my view, because the set was a little uneven, it was SO hot in there & the show was a little short (how can you say that at just over 3 hours?) but Paris Night 2 on 5th was just unbelievable!

The reviews above make it clear it was a bit special, but this was a crowd truly 'IN CONCERT' with the greatest band I'll ever see in possibly the greatest form they've ever been. Up the front 'in the pit' we stood cheering, almost incredulous at what we were witnessing & taking part in. He's played 2 songs from the new album in the first 5 songs every night of the tour, BUT NOT THIS NIGHT. IN fact we wondered by song 6 whether he was even gonna play them at all! The songs they did play have all been played in rotation since the band first reunited in 1999, but the pure PASSION of those first 6 was breathtaking & for me my first time ever for 'Something In The Night' with the line about 'Kingsley Avenue' in Asbury Park, New Jersey, WHERE I HAVE WALKED, just took it away to a whole new level. I'd made friends with a Dutch fan & a Dutch (I think) girl in the pit talking about our previous shows & from time to time we looked knowingly or open mouthed in shock at what was happening before us.

The intensity I've seen in this group of shows is unrivalled by anything I've ever seen, save personal things like the birth of my daughter, my wedding etc. There is a UNITY between Bruce & Band & Audience as strong as anything I saw with Clarence (which I doubted was possible before seeing this tour).

My videos cannot do the performance justice but I submit Bruce solo on piano playing 'For You' from his very first album, he's not by any means a trained or classical pianist, yet somehow he transmits a 'feeling' when he plays solo, however simple or even with some mistakes, that just touches you:

After Manchester I said I wish you could've all seen that show with me as I have no way of explaining how his concerts feel - When I came out of this show & saw some friends of mine, none of us could put into words what a wonderful show it was. In fact we just sat on the steps outside the Bercy Arena pretty quietly all (I'm sure) just trying to drink it all in & remember as much as possible of a TRULY GREAT NIGHT.

I know Hyde Park can never match this show. It's a festival so it'll be a more standard no doubt shorter set - I'm gonna treat it as a wind down, a chance to catch up with my oldest friend & my god-daughter after over 15 years since I last saw them (& hope that they just get some of a taste of why I go back again & again for more), a chance to hopefully catch up with some other 'Bruce' friends, old & new, some of whom I've not yet met at all.

Then I'm gonna just hope the rumours of the tour extending into next year are true.

I cannot believe what this man is doing at 62 years old. He doesn't need to come out & play 3 & a half hour shows to match anyone else. He doesn't have to play over 100 songs on the tour - no one else does! He doesn't have to play a second night & change 15 SONGS - no other act I've seen would dream of doing it! If he turned up, churned out a pretty decent 2 & a half hour set, he'd probably exceed anything I've ever seen from anyone else! What he is doing is so far ahead of anything else I've seen that I honestly can't find a way to describe it any further.

After 6 shows & with a 7th to come, I wish i could go to even more - It's MAD!

Mark
I'll wait for you, And should I fall behind, Wait for me

and what a great video of For You ... Bruce not known necessarily for his voice - cracks me up precisely because he sings this so beautifully.
There's something happening somewhere
baby I just know that there is

Great post Pauline, great control of the roll calls too for the 4th (No mercy,ha)! The 2nd night was my 40th show, and i really really really cant think of a better show, when i wasnt leaping like a madman i was shaking my head from side to side in dissbelief as to what was happening right in front of my eyes. must also add, he can now play the guitar backwards against the mike stand with no hands and make it talk! hope it continues for many a year!
