Note:

National Sales Charts are based on Retail Sales (except for Greece, South Korea and Argentina, which are based on Wholesale sales)
National Sales Awards (i.e., official Gold/Platinum certifications) are based on Wholesale Sales.

Thank you for doing this once more Earthslayer.

Do you think it will begin at #1 in the USA and other countries ? Personnally, I expect it to begin at #1 in many European countries, like Sweden and Norway. And maybe even in Australia, with the tour coming there soon. But in the USA, it depends of the competition.

"Wrecking Ball" opened at #1 in the USA with Week-1 sales of 196,000. I'll be very surprised  if "High Hopes" sells close to 196k......but 100k is probably gonna be enough to capture the #1 spot, as that week appears to be shaping up as a slow sales week in the USA.

I'd be shocked if HH got to no. 1 in Oz.

huh?

Spain.........................14

WTF happened here??

It's a chart phenomenon in Spain that's not really indicative of how "Springsteen & I" has actually been doing there. Relatively speaking it's doing ok.

I haven't been bothered to investigate the background deeply (maybe a Laker from Spain knows more)........but there appears to me to be some kind of Spanish "tween" or childrens TV-based vocal group that is all the rage in Spain (but nowhere else). They have released about a dozen volumes of Music Videos - and all those volumes have pretty much been dominating the top 12 positions in Spain's Music Video Charts for many months....each of these volumes are already certified from PLATINUM to PLAT x 8 !!....so, really massive sales. Bottom line - Springsteen (and nearly everyone else) has been "blocked" from getting high in the Music Video Chart.

Is this based on daily sales, or weekly sales ?

A spurt in retail sales on Thursday and early Friday have Springsteen's High Hopes album now projecting to 95k-100k by end of the tabulation week (Sunday)......opening up a lead on Disney's "Frozen" Soundtrack, which is projecting 85k-90k.

That'd be nice...whatever the reason

High Hopes expected to sell 95,000 copies in the U.S. and give Bruce his eleventh #1 album placing him third all-time behind only Jay-Z (13) and The Beatles (19).

It's looking like good news for Bruce in the UK and IRELAND..........."High Hopes" album will easily premier at #1 in the UK, with Week-1 sales currently projecting to around 50,000. In Ireland Bruce is also looking like a sure bet for #1. No retail sales figure projections out of Ireland but the album has already shipped (wholesales sales) "GOLD" (7,500) there.

All those shows in Ireland last year starting to show dividends...

Elvis is currently tied with Bruce with 10 #1 albums in the USA. It might change in a few days.

Elvis might have more if he wasn't dead.

There is no official album sales chart in ISRAEL.....but the "High Hopes" album has opened at #1 on the unofficial 'Musicaneto Weekly Album Sales Chart'. Musicaneto is one of the largest record retail chains in Israel - but its chart only covers its own sales channels, not those of other vendors. Considered indicative though.

...some associated news

Due to significantly declining album sales ITALY has recently lowered its sales threshold levels for album certifications - from 30k (gold) / 60k (platinum).... ...to 25k (gold) / 50k (platinum).......effective from Jan 1, 2014 for all new albums released from Jan 1 onwards. So Bruce's new album will fall under these new thresholds. So, another lowering in Italy - there have been several since the mid-90's

Prior to Sep 1994 the certification thresholds in ITALY were high - 100,000 (gold) / 200,000 (platinum)...and pre Sep 1994 albums are still under these thresholds, which is why you don't see a lot of older albums certified or up-certified in Italy.

It's quite surprising and sad that out of all the artists ever to sell a record, Jay-Z is second to The Beatles for most #1 albums. He has released 15 albums since 1996. Bruce has released 7 albums. Let's see Jay-Z take seven years off in between albums like Bruce did with GOTJ and The Rising or have a #1 album in a few different decades like Bruce.
