  1. Fantastic! Glad to hear things are coming around for you Daisy. The easy life doesn’t seem too enjoyable to me either.
  2. Jeez Daisy, I think you just created the lyrical outline for a song on Nebraska II: Trouble on the Other Side of the World.
  3. Hopefully a movie version of Bruce playing Western Stars on a ukulele while riding a horsey on his farm.
  4. I can’t possibly be the only one giggling at every mention of “BJ”, can I? Sometimes it’s worth just bothering to type out the full name of the song. But then again, that would have prevented me from getting a good laugh.
  5. Believe me, I get it. There is nothing in his music that says I should like it. But I really do love the 4 or 5 hits he had. I’m assuming it has to do with me at just the right age (8 or so) when those songs came out. Young enough that I couldn’t discern between what I like and what was being carved into my brain from repeated radio play.
  6. Oddly enough, Christopher Cross is always my choice for musical guilty pleasure.
  7. That’s pretty funny. I can hear the similarity. Oddly, an Air Supply cover would have fit in well on Western Stars.
  8. Hmmmmm...... I never heard that song as being about the birth of a child. I still don’t see that but it’s interesting.
  9. It’s a good story. It kills the flow of that album for me though. Just doesn’t fit. But if you like it, listen to the hell out of it.
  10. I would with that as long as it excludes Meeting Across the River, which sadly eliminates Jungleland. So I guess I’ll go: Thunder Road 10th Ave. Night Backstreets Born to Run
  11. Thundercrack was played at my reception. Play Born in the USA if you like it. Nobody else will really care one way or the other.
  12. That’s an interesting point I didn’t think about. Yeah, I would imagine they are interesting to the uninitiated.
  13. I would agree that Obama is the much more interesting character in these conversations. There really is not much for Bruce to cover that we haven’t heard already.
  14. Finished listening to episodes 5 and 6 today (way too much time in the car). Enjoyable listen. I don’t agree with everything they say by any means but I do enjoy the conversation.
  15. Is an interesting article. Not sure how much of it I agree with. Also, I’m honestly not sure how much of it I fully understand. But the point about Born in the USA is one I’ve made for years. If he wanted it be a serious and sober song he shouldn’t have made it sound like a patriotic anthem. That’s not on the people listening, that’s on him laying it out as he did. It certainly made him a ton of money. It also touches on Bruce’s idea of the middle. I honestly don’t think Bruce has a great grasp of the middle of the country. He still talks about growing up in the small town of Freehold, NJ which he would not try to sell if he had a real awareness of what constitutes a small town outside of New Jersey.
  16. Interesting. I felt 4 was most like an actual conversation whereas the other 3 felt more like Obama interviewing Bruce.
  17. Slim Dunlap was the Replacements’ replacement for Bob Stinson. Great to see Bruce branch out in their direction. In the book titled Trouble Boys about the Replacements, Paul Westerberg mentions that every Christmas season he listens to a particular Springsteen song. Can’t remember which one off the top of my head (I’ll have to dust it off and figure it out) but it was not a song you think of as bringing Yuletide joy.
  18. I’m about 20 minutes in. Loved Obama’s story about his first trip to the mainland. Edit: Just finished it. Definitely the most enjoyable for me.
  19. Who is shocked by- or uncomfortable about- Bruce discussing party politics? I haven’t seen anybody in here say they are shocked or uncomfortable about it.
  20. Hmmmm...... I don’t really get all this. Where Bruce takes heat and gets annoying (to me at least) is when he is party political. When he wants the “other party” to meet in his middle, which is obviously not the middle overall. His music is still enjoyable though.
  21. No, it’s just boring. Racing in the Street is a quieter song but not boring. Racing has some passion to it, Promise doesn’t. It’s not the lyrics, it’s the delivery I guess.
  22. If people are seeing politics in what he is saying that is most likely brought on by him who has chosen to become political. Im not sure what your comment about “point scoring” means.
