  1. I think you should send me some and I’ll let you know after I eat them.
  2. By the way, I have no idea why people use the word “woke” it like it’s an insult. I think it’s a compliment. It means a person is awake and aware of what is happening in the world and open to change. It’s way better than being asleep and unaware and just being like Rip Van Winkle and letting the world pass you by while you sleep. Wake up!
  3. The Stones decided on their own not to perform it anymore, they didn’t cave to pressure from anyone. Then someone asked them about it and it became newsworthy. These are the lyrics. I’ve been listening to the song for all these years and had no clue. Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields Sold in a market down in New Orleans Skydog slaver knows he's doing alright Hear him whip the women just around midnight Brown sugar how come you taste so good? Brown sugar just like a young girl should Drums beating, cold English blood runs hot Lady of the house wonderin' where it's gonna stop House boy knows that he's doing alright You shoulda heard him just around midnight Brown sugar how come you taste so good, now? Brown sugar just like a young girl should, now Ah, get along, brown sugar how come you taste so good, baby? Ah, got me feelin' now, brown sugar just like a black girl should I bet your mama was a tent show queen And all her boyfriends were sweet sixteen I'm no schoolboy but I know what I like You shoulda heard me just around midnight Brown sugar how come you taste so good, baby? Ah, brown sugar just like a young girl should, yeah I said yeah, yeah, yeah, woo How come you... how come you taste so good? Yeah, yeah, yeah, woo Just like a... just like a black girl should Yeah, yeah, yeah, woo
  4. It doesn’t! I don’t see the eye icon. I tried it with a new post, couldn’t do it, here’s a screenshot of what I see. Where’s the eye? Sorry! I’ve just never been able to figure this out. For 20 years now…I can’t properly post spoiler text. Here’s a screenshot of my attempt:
  5. I am sorry but I actually don’t know how to do the hidden spoiler font thingy. If you want to tell me how, I’ll do it. In the meantime, I edited it so at least you can tell it’s a spoiler.
  6. Stop for lunch. Coffee or tea?
  7. I haven’t read the book or any excerpts yet, but from what I have read and heard over the years, everyone who has met Paul Simon pretty much agrees he is a jerk. His music is great, but his personality is not. Paul violated the boycott of South Africa in order to record and promote his Graceland record. He was vocally critical of Nelson Mandela. Obviously that would not sit well with Steve, who dedicated so much energy to trying to end Apartheid. Here’s an article from an African blogger about Little Steven and Paul Simon and Nelson Mandela. It’s a pretty good read: https://africasacountry.com/2014/01/when-steven-van-zandt-convinced-azapo-to-take-paul-simon-off-a-hit-list-and-what-paul-simon-really-thought-of-nelson-mandela
  8. Back in 2000, I watched Bruce, Steve, and Southside sing this in Asbury Park. It’s still one of my fondest Bruce memories. It was poignant then, when they were “only” in their 50s. I’d love to hear them sing it together again.
  9. Oh I’ve heard of the show…it’s impossible to be on this board and not know about the show. But I don’t get Sirius so I’ve never listened to it. My car had a 90 day free trial of Sirius but I never renewed it when it expired and that was in 2015.
  10. Yes it was the film by the 2 French filmmakers. Miami MArk died of cancer in 2015.
  11. Lol. Did he actually have a ticket and go in on time? One of my favorite memories of Rich is that he went to a lot of shows without a ticket. Then he’d play a game with the scalpers. He’d find a couple of scalpers with good tickets but he wouldn’t pay them what they wanted. Instead, he would wait until the show started, and one or 2 songs in, he’d get a great ticket from a scalper for next to nothing. Every time, it made me feel bad to leave him in the parking lot when the rest of us would go into the show. And every single time, I’d get a text from him just a couple of songs into the show, letting me know he found a great seat for under face value.
  12. Cell phone photo of my TV. Rich teasing another firefighter.
  13. It sure was. And I miss him too. And that beginning shot with Rich was before anything happened, and it was Rich teasing the other firefighter and laughing. So cool to see it. Cell phone shot of my TV
  14. The thread title is a little exaggerated, FYI. He’s only in a few scenes but it’s still awesome to see film of him, alive and doing his job.
  15. CNN is playing the documentary called 9/11. Turn it on right now! There were 2 filmmakers following along with Rich’s firehouse in September 2001. The story was supposed to be about a probationary firefighter, but they happened to be with the firefighters and on the scene on 9/11, so it turned into a documentary about the day and the firefighters. If you get CNN, turn it on. Rich is in one of the very first scenes. I’ve seen the documentary before, and he’s in it in several places. Even if you don’t know Rich, this is a great film about 9/11. I just saw Rich on TV a moment ago.

  17. I was part of GL then and I remember very vividly that we were following and checking in with each other on the thread called "Unfuckingbelievable." I'm sorry that thread can't be revived. I remember worrying about Rich, and I remember hearing that he was OK. I remember him popping into the chat room that night. This community was much smaller then and very tight knit. @PattyC, I grew up in NYC, but I was living on Long Island on 9/11/01. 99 days out of 100 I would have been in court in downtown NYC, but for some reason I did not have to be in NYC on that day.
