  1. Have always liked The Killers, and adding Bruce's "seasoned voice" gives the song more depth and meaning.
  2. I can't believe no one has meaning The Rising. That song at that time. His Broadway version is incredibly moving:
  3. Two listens, and it is growing on me. Love the guitar in Burnin' Train. Thousand guitars has a National feel to it. Songs for Orphans is channeling Dylan. Love If I Was a Priest with those trippy pre-BTR lyrics. I'll See You in My Dreams channels Roy Orbison. Lots going on here, but it works.
  4. Came back to this after a week. As a diehard fan watching the footage, and listening to the lyrics this song is a very emotional ride.
  5. I don't see any discussion of the film version of the song. What does everyone think?
  6. Racing was always my favorite BS song. For some reason it always brings a tear to my eye, like Moonlight Motel. Just that right mix of somber melody and lyric.
  7. It was mentioned on E Street Radio that women are quite taken with this album. I would agree. My wife likes Bruce, and I have taken her with me to 15-16 concerts including Broadway, but this album has really captured her. Also, her daughter, my step-daughter, is obsessed with it. The funny thing is so is her dog. She sent me footage of her little dog howling to the instrumental of Chasing Wild Horses. The little guy was looking up and howling at the top of his lungs.

  9. https://brucespringsteen.lnk.to/sundown?fbclid=IwAR24MEs5Ok3WhHyLe1OecWXOurelLs4NZXmuKMFCwjejEVldRO_UE6jDZ18 More background singing, Bruce sounds just as strong as the album. Here is the video:
  10. "It's a knockout." https://www.rollingstone.com/movies/movie-features/toronto-2019-bruce-springsteen-western-stars-review-883883/?fbclid=IwAR1H1q-TWif0Hz7b_09ANCe4a19hwSYFFFaMiQivi2mlnNQVJH_fFC0EIuw
  11. I am hoping with Warner Bros behind it, it will receive broad distribution.
  12. I read a trailer is out, but I haven't found it. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/1092555-warner-bros-acquires-bruce-springsteens-directorial-debut-western-stars With Warner behind it I suspect it will get some legit promotion.
  13. What is your favorite verse from a song in Western Stars? My all time favorite Springsteen verse is this from Thunder Road: There were ghosts in the eyes Of all the boys you sent away They haunt this dusty beach road In the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets They scream your name at night in the street Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet And in the lonely cool before dawn You hear their engines roaring on When you get to the porch they're gone On the wind Western Stars has two contenders: CWH: Fingernail moon in a twilight sky Ridin' high grass of the switchback I shout your name into the canyon The echo throws it back MM She was boarded up and gone like an old summer song Nothing but an empty shell I pulled in and stopped into my old spot I pulled a bottle of Jack out of a paper bag Poured one for me and one for you as well Then it was one more shot poured out onto the parking lot To the Moonlight Motel
  14. Thunder Road (any version) because this verse is the best lyric Bruce has written to date: There were ghosts in the eyes Of all the boys you sent away They haunt this dusty beach road In the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets They scream your name at night in the street Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet And in the lonely cool before dawn You hear their engines roaring on When you get to the porch they're gone On the wind
  15. At nine, I climbed high into the boughs of our neighborhood's tallest tree I don't remember the fear, just the breeze If you saw the Broadway show or caught it on Netflix you know the inspiration for this line. I did get to see him...on my birthday.
  16. Disappointed to read WS has dropped to 166 in Billboard top 200. I guess it is not a surprise, this record has received no airplay on my local stations. I would love to see it nominated for a Grammy, and have read in some places that it should. If so, what category?
  17. https://americansongwriter.com/2019/07/bruce-springteen-moonlight-motel/ Nice to see this song get recognized.
  18. Interesting. I suspect the videos were done this year. Bruce looks his age in them.
  19. Nice review here: https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2019/06/bruce-springsteens-western-stars-is-a-triumph-of-songwriting-and-arrangement
  20. I know Bruce was no. 1 in the UK...and yes Bruce cares about this stuff.
  21. https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8517130/madonna-bruce-springsteen-top-two-billboard-200 I hope WS has some legs to it, so it can get to number 1. Would love to see this album nominated for a Grammy, but I don't know what category to place it. After many, many listens, my top three are Motel, Chasing Wild Horses and Western Stars.
