  1. I'd drive down to Alvarado street where she danced to make ends meet I'd spend the night over my gin as she'd talk to her men...
  2. When You're Alone, live in 1996, featuring Soozie and Patti.
  3. I've been that down, I've been that crazy I've been that much of a fool But there'll never be any other for me but you...
  4. All her friends call her Little Wing But she flies rings around them all She comes to town when the children sing And leaves them feathers if they fall...
  5. I had all earthly riches I had each and every one But I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun... Further in connection with Bruce's most experimental and idiosyncratic material, Good Eye in some ways continues to explore similar ground as 57 Channels. Like many of the WOAD songs, it's quite simple, but I always loved it on a very visceral level. I wish Bruce had believed more in the live potential of the album. As it stands, some tracks were never debuted live and Good Eye, like What Love Can Do, has only been played once outside of rehearsals. This was one such rehearsal performance:
  6. Tonight as I tuck my own son in bedAll I can think of is what if it would've been him insteadI want to build me a wall so high nothing can burn it downRight here on my own piece of dirty ground...
  7. Well we might'a made some friends with some billionaires We might'a got all nice and friendly if we'd made it upstairs All I got was a note that said "Bye-bye John Our love is 57 channels and nothin' on" The truly experimental version of this song about a man's feelings of emptiness and alienation performed at SNL in 1992, which dissolves into the uplifting prayer of Living Proof, where the same character finds meaning and hope with the birth of his son, is drenched in dissonance, fury, but also some of the original's alluring ambience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tnkg2ARA1U
  8. Paradoxical Undressing, a very short film about Kristin Hersh, featuring readings from her memoir, images of Providence and Aquidneck Island and excerpts of her music, including Flooding and Slippershell. A version of the latter is included in Purgatory / Paradise, Throwing Muses' new album. A sonic adventure which I've been thoroughly relishing and, like all of Kristin's work as a solo artist or with TM and 50 Foot Wave, a difficult, idiosyncratic, impressionistic, visionary but ultimately glorious one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imiMM6G05Mk
  9. That's too bad. This would be the right Bruce song for the occasion: http://www.springsteenlyrics.com/lyrics/f/fuckedupamplifierblues.php
  10. I awoke and I imagined the hard things that pulled us apart Will never again, sir, tear us from each other's hearts I got dressed, and to that house I did ride... My Father's House as performed on the Devils and Dust tour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daRsdZKxBlU
  11. Sorry to hear that Steve. A great highlight of the WB tour: I've got my finger on the triggerAnd tonight faith just ain't enoughWhen I look inside my heartThere's just devils and dust http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joSfO9XooCE
  12. Now my mind begins to wander To the days back on the farmI can see my father smiling at meSwinging on his arm... Bruce paying homage to James Taylor. In the introduction, he compliments Taylor for his iconic role as the taciturn 'driver' in Two-Lane Blacktop, a key influence in the composition of Bruce's own Racing in the Street. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lNNMb_7qcE
  13. Wooden ships on the water very free... http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Wooden+Ships/4CgCdq?src=5 Should I paint my faceShould I pierce my skinDoes this make me a paganSweating out my sins... http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Golden+Feather/53T3mV?src=5
