  1. Probably with the pandemic and that there is no touring, Bruce has not been working out as much, or atleast with regard to weight training. Also the fact ,that you do tend to get picky of what you eat as you age. His weight has always kind of oscillated like it does for most of us. Remember him being really slim during VH1 storytellers, then during Wrecking Ball he started off quite heavy and was in terrific shape towards the end of the tour. At 72,if I can be anywhere near his shape that would be something.
  2. Was pretty sure he will complete the golden slam and emulate Steffi Graf. First Olympics loss and now this.. Did not expect the straight set defeat.
  3. Bro is thrilled that his all time favourite player is back with his all-time fav team and a very good start as well
  4. Still listen to them. Liked quite a few of their songs unlike BoneyM. Mentioned BoneyM cos before 84 or so when MJ won all those grannies, everyone in India thought that these 2 were the biggest bands in the world.
  5. Backlash in Indian social media already. Ravi Shastri taking lot of flak for being irresponsible in attending the function which led to the covid situation. The general consensus is that the match should have started and stopped only in case players tested positive. The fact that IPL is mere days away does not make the situation look any better, more so when most of the guys if not all will turn up and play. Still believe the players here are the scapegoats
  6. I have stated above that once the schedule was fixed, last minute cancellation is not correct unless good number of players themselves tasted positive and we could not field a playing 11 which does not seem the case as things stand right now. Was just making a larger point as to how difficult things are these days. Thing not long ago England too contemplated pulling out of a tour. Its about time cricket boards pay attention to the number of matches top level players are playing these days.
  7. Apparently it's more of a mental issue rather than physical or covid. The Indian team who have been on the road since May were exhausted. One of their physios tested positive earlier and now the other guy who had worked very closely with the team the last few days. From here they have IPL in 10 days, followed shortly by the World T20 championship and then the NZ series. Its one bubble to another. Still believe that once the schedule was decided, the 5th test should not have been agreed to rather than canceling at the last minute. Having said that it must be really difficult for athletes these days to live in these so called bubbles. Earlier this year, Ashwin chose to leave the Ipl as his family had tested positive and he could not focus on cricket.
  8. There was always this discussion of BCCI wanting Yes.. There were discussions earlier to move it up. Pity for the paying public. Don't think it's financial reasons for BCCI to agree for a later date, the board has enough money. When this does go for arbitration and if the players all test negative in the second round as well, the fear that this may end up as forfeited may have something to do with it. Contrary to what people believe, IPL is good for money but at the end of the day the respect and love from the public comes from playing for your national team, so test championship is taken seriously.
  9. Latest is that the test will be rescheduled. When, it's not clear so the series is still not officially over.
  10. It's a shame it had to end like this. Suspect that as reported players are unwilling to take the field is a lie. Someone like Pujara has no IPL contract and most of the other playing 11 have already made enough. Also, think even if they did miss a few matches due to Covid they would still get paid. It appears to be much larger forces at play here.
  11. The 5th test will start today. There was some concern that it might get called off as more support staff from India had tested positive. Fortunately all the players tested negative yesterday.
  12. Did not expect the end when England was 100 for no loss.Bumrah might have ended with just 2 wickets but his spell when he picked up those wickets was brilliant. Kohli is not one to change a winning team, so Ashwin will miss out on the final test as well. Yadav, Jadeja and Thakur all did enough to get picked again even if Shami and Ishanth are available. Rahane needs a break. It's just not that he is not scoring but also looks completely out of place. For most parts this was the best pitch for him to get into some sort of form. Agarwal or Surya kumar both are better alternatives.
  13. Got a weird urge to reread all the books of Wilbur Smith, Fredrick Forsyth, Jeffrey Archer, Arthur Hailey and Erich Segal which I had read may be about 30 years back. Bought them all last week and just started Hotel.
  14. Ashwin's continued exclusion is stupid. The guy besides over 400 wickets has 5 hundreds and should be an automatic selection. That Kohli has a problem with Ashwin does come out at times but you need to put your personal differences aside and pick the 11 best guys. Dhoni at times backed his IPL team mates and even Sourav Ganguly when he was captain used to frequently not include Anil Kumble. Anil has won more test matches for India than anyone in our history but was never a regular. Feel sometimes captains prefer guys they are comfortable with rather than pure merit.
  15. This Indian team don't give up and put up a fight on most occasions. I expect them to bounce back. However, the results have largely been due to the excellent bowling line up and also not so great opposition. Most teams are in the process of rebuilding and don't really match upto teams of maybe 7 to 8 years back, especially Australia and SA. England seem to have some weird rotation policy and injuries as well. The extremely brittle Indian batting has gotten away due to this. With Kohli nowhere near his best for sometime now its even more exposed. Also, Ashwin should figure in the playing 11, a decent bat and a genuine match winner.
  16. There was something about the way Viv strode to the crease. The swagger, the chewing gum.. Must have influenced sales of chewing gum as everyone in the 80's wanted to chew gum and bat. Incidentally he and Gordon Greenidge made their debut in the very first test match that Bangalore hosted on 1974-75. Greenidge and Lloyd had a great match while Richards had a miserable time against Chandrashekar, a local hero. Chandra was dropped for next match and Richards got a big hundred. With you on sometimes not liking someone for no apparent reason. To me it's Celine Dion.
  17. I thought he was charismatic, had a brilliant bowling record as well till his back injury. A genuine match winner with both bat and ball. Kallis has in recent years redefined what an all-rounder can do.
  18. Unless England collapse dramatically, India is staring at defeat. Well we could have a repeat of that famous test against Australia when Dravid and Lakshman batted the whole day and India ended up winning after following on and losing 3 early wickets
  19. Botham along with Viv Richards was one of heros growing up. Never really cared much for the Chappel brothers.
  20. Nice Display pic doc
  21. Yes.. Only 3 teams and not city based like the men's league.
  22. The crowds were dwindling for test. Partly also due to BCCI's rotation policy where they used to take cricket everywhere and in lot of places outside of the metros like Chennai,Bangalore, Delhi,Kolkata, Mumbai, there isn't much of an audience for test. Maybe followed on TV but people were not flocking to the grounds unless a Tendulkar was expected to bat. Even from a cricketing sense, the innovativeness be it in batting or bowling and also the improvements in fielding in a way can be attributed to these shorter formats. Yes, ultimately test cricket is the true test especially for batsmen who can get away in the shorter formats. Take someone like AB Develliers.. This guy is phenomenally popular in India. Not sure how much you would have seen of him. The kind of shots he plays I have not seen anyone play since I started watching cricket from 1981. Immensely gifted and someone for whom numbers will never do justice for his talents though he does the fastest 100,150,200. If not for Ipl or Big Bash most people would have never gotten to experience or maybe even they would not felt the need to innovate
  23. Had no idea on the B side of Streets of Philadelphia and also the guest appearances on Weiss. Rest seemed ok
  24. Am all for anything that brings in new audiences. It's easy to be dismissive of anything that deviates from the original. However all those innovations does have a positive impact. Have seen a renewed interest in Test cricket in India post Ipl. Once again test matches are drawing in crowds to the stadiums.
