  1. It has to be: Born To Run Darkness The River which is the best three albums in a row by anyone, not just Bruce. But David Bowie’s Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane, Bob Dylan’s Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde On Blonde, and Joni Mitchell’s Blue, For The Roses and Court And Spark come pretty close.
  2. Thought this was interesting. Sorry if it’s already been posted. https://www.nj.com/opinion/2021/02/springsteen-was-set-up-opinion.html
  3. Sandy Thunder Road Backstreets Born To Run Jungleland Badlands Candy’s Room Racing In The Street The Promise Stolen Car (Tracks)
  4. I have always wanted a Bruce equivalent of Ian Macdonald’s Revolution In The Head and Nicholas Pegg’s The Complete David Bowie, which are my favourite books about music. But I have yet to find one.
  5. 1) The sax break in The Way. 2) When it crashes into ‘She has fancy clothes and diamond rings’ in Candy’s Room. 3) The outro of The River version of Stolen Car, particularly the last piano bit.
  6. ‘White lines’ in a song lyric is very easily read both ways. A good example is Joni Mitchell’s Coyote. (A superb song, by the way. Give it a listen if you’ve never heard it.) I never really thought that the Gypsy Biker ‘white lines’ was about cocaine. Bruce seems more of a ‘highway’ sort of guy. But what a song. My favourite Bruce song of the past 30 years!
