Eileen
There was I, standing on the corner of a street in Darras Hall (football player land), when I saw a bloke - instantly recognisable - going into the Co-op. I waited for him to come out and walked up to him ... as he walked up to me with money in his hand.No ... I was not selling my wares (wouldn't get much), I was rattling a tin for a charity.I said hello and he said how ya doing? I thanked him for his contribution and asked if I could shake his hand ...along with 'Wait til I tell my brother'.It was Peter Beardsley!!!!! Legend!!!!!! My face ached for the rest of the afternoon cos I was smiling so much.

Growin' Up
I've heard that rumour. But why would they offer the same 8 yr contract to the likes of Carr, Stone, Carver et al?Pardew and his team deserve a lot of credit for the way they've changed Newcastle's strategy - particularly in the transfer market. newcastle roy
MAGS back in Europe tonight...mackems watch it on the telly TEAM NEWSFull-back Danny Simpson is back in the Newcastle squad after more than a month out with a hamstring injury. His return is timely for the Magpies, who are likely to face Bordeaux without centre-backs Steven Taylor (calf) and Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring).Keeper Tim Krul is still sidelined with an ankle problem, but midfielder Yohan Cabaye is in contention after recovering from a mouth infection.Newcastle drew their opening game 0-0 against Portuguese side Maritimo.Bordeaux are top of Group D after winning their first match 4-0 against Club Bruges. And they have enjoyed an encouraging start to the season domestically, remaining unbeaten in their seven matches so far to sit fifth in the Ligue 1 table.Former Lille midfielder Cabaye has experience of the Europa League from his time in France, and he believes a run in the competition could have a positive impact on the Magpies."With Lille, we played for three or four years in the Europa League and I think that competition helped us to win the French title and the French cup," he said."It's important to play 100% in this competition to get more experience for the future. Now we have got [into] the Europa League, we have to play to win the game because we are playing at home."We know Bordeaux are a good team but we are a good team as well, so we have to win the game to have a winning mentality."
