Gigs 2013

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of going along and seeing how cheap the touts were selling @8pm.......

As there's still some tickets available from Eventim, if there are any touts I can't see them doing great business. You could well get lucky.

I saw Leonard Cohen last night for the first time.

Absolutely phenomenal.

Excluding a 20 minute interval, he broke the 3 hour barrier.

Impressive for anyone but for a man who turns 79 this month?

The gig itself was glorious.

LC is wonderful and the least ego fuelled musician I have ever seen.

As for his band? my goodness!

The best group of musicians I have ever seen.

The sound was also the best I can recall hearing in an arena.

It was perfect.

The boot is on dime if you're interested.

Brilliant photo ^^^ :)

How was the show?

Excellent. You pretty much know what songs you're going to get with Elton, most of the classic hits and album tracks, an odd wildcard but no real surprises.

He played his new single but only one other song from new album The Diving Board (or The Ironing Board as apparently Rod Stewart refers to it). I though the sound was excellent again, especially instrumentally, so much so that my highlight was Funeral For a Friend.

Usual Arena issues with people going backwards & forwards to the bar / toilet but unfortunately that isn't likely to change as I expect the venues make a large part of their income from refreshments.

I have had a great year for gigs... I saw Rodriguez in March, (second time, first time was the now legendary tour here in 1998) Suzanne Vega at the start of November followed by Simple Minds the next night. Great weekend!

I also have more coming up than I could have dreamed of... We are clearly flavour of the month again as we were in '94/95:

Johnny Clegg - 30 November Monte Casino Jhb (If you don't know Johnny, he is the closest thing South Africa has to a Bruce... I try see him at least once a year)

Dave Matthews Band - 3 December The Dome Jhb (The first DMB tour to SA, was really excited about this until the Springsteen gigs were announced, now I'm more excited about that!)

Bruce - 26 January Cape Town

Bruce - 28 January Cape Town

Bruce - 1 Feb FNB Stadium Jhb

Santana announced his first tour here just after Bruce, (FNB Stadium 1 March) but I'm a wee bit broke after the Bruce splurge so might get tickets at the end of the month if they are still available.
