......but do Chelsea fans care ? No they don’t. The club has just joined an illustrious group who can claim to have won the Cup Winners Cup twice, ditto the Europa League, and ditto the Champions League/European Cup......Ajax, Manchester United, Juventus, and Bayern Munich.

The top table.

AC Milan have told Chelsea they will take up the option to sign Fikayo Tomori on a permanent deal for £25m, Sky in Italy report.

The 23-year-old moved to Italy on an initial six-month loan in January and cemented a starting spot in Stefano Pioli's side at the expense of club captain Alessio Romagnoli.

The Serie A club have been in talks with Chelsea in the past few days in an attempt to knock down the £25m fee agreed in January but the Blues refused to budge on their valuation.

Tomori made 17 league appearances throughout his time in Milan, scoring once at Juventus, and played a key role as the club secured a second-placed finish and a return to the Champions League after a seven-year absence.

AC Milan are expected to finalise the paperwork and announce the transfer next week.

News that will amuse the anti Chelsea brigade here comes as the club loan their Under 18 coach to AFC Wimbledon for I believe an initial 6 months. It might be a clever move by both clubs, certainly for The Dons who might get some access to Chelsea kids available on loan. For the Chelsea man, a good chance to coach a third tier first team, so maybe a win win all round.

Chelsea take the loan army to dublin.. plus 4 players who may actually still be there when the season starts

Continuing the pattern of secrecy, Chelsea have not published the name of the traveling squad, but @CarefreeYouth’s little birdies have told him the following 24:

GOALKEEPERS: Arrizabalaga, Bergström, Cumming, Mendy
FULL BACKS: Alonso, Baba, Sterling, Zappacosta
CENTER BACKS: Chalobah, Clarke-Salter, Miazga, Sarr
MIDFIELDERS: Baker, Barkley, Drinkwater, Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek
WINGERS: Hudson-Odoi, Musonda, Pulisic, Ziyech
STRIKERS: Abraham, Broja, Ugbo

So basically the same squad as for the first week of preseason training, less the ones who transferred or left on loan during that time. Still no Bakayoko or Kenedy, and still no players from the Euros. (UPDATE: Tino Anjorin and Ian Maatsen may or may not be isolating at the moment.)

DTBS, as you will have noticed at OT, he can not trap a bag of cement. Extraordinary amount of money spent by CFC (£97.5M), but recent sales (Tomori, Guehi, Moses, Giroud, Ekwah-Elimby, Bate, Livramento, Peart-Harris and Simeu) have netted approx £64M….and Abraham will fetch around £40M……so the club might argue they are quids in…..and that finding an available centre forward who might net 20 goals a season is not easy.

And you would not be surprised if Chelsea sold him for £80M next summer if Haaland wanted to join them. But hopefully CFC keep Lukaku a while longer.

Looked like a fair result but lacking in quality. Of the two I’d say CFC will finish the higher.

I’d probably agree. First eleven is starting to look stale. No real investment in the first eleven for 5 years. Maybe we should protest.

Reading have signed Danny Drinkwater on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

“Danny’s talent and ability is unquestionable and to bring a player of his calibre to our club is extremely exciting,“ Veljko Paunovic said.

“A proven winner, he is a player whose achievements on the pitch can inspire those around him and help to drive this club forward from the centre of midfield. We are very pleased to welcome him to Read
