Short of defenders young neco Williams makes the bench.....

Milner in at left back with Robertson only on bench

hopefully players aren’t distracted by their flight to the desert tomorrow

Two games in two days, first one is for the young ones tonight. Will be hard to explain in a couple of decades how the team that won the league without a single loss and the team that won two back to back Champions Leagues got smashed by Villa in the quarters of the League Cup! :o

Jokes aside, looking forward to see them play tonight, got nothing to lose so give it a go like that game against Arsenal in the previous round. One of the most entertaining games of the season so far that one.

no surprise that wijnaldum having gone all the way to the beach wont feature in the games due to injury

so 19 fit players - 3 of whom are goalies - should be a tough team selection....

meanwhile in the league cup - brewster is injured, no laroucci or lewis who figured on the usa tour...

==========================================================

There are five debutants in the Liverpool line-up for tonight's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa.

Tony Gallacher, Isaac Christie-Davies, Luis Longstaff, Morgan Boyes and Thomas Hill all make their first ever senior appearances for the Reds at Villa Park.

Pedro Chirivella captains the team, which will be managed by U23s boss Neil Critchley.

Liverpool: Kelleher, Hoever, Boyes, Van den Berg, Gallacher, Chirivella, Christie-Davies, Kane, Longstaff, Hill, Elliott.

Substitutes: Winterbottom, Clayton, Dixon-Bonner, Bearne, Clarkson, Norris, Stewart.

Watching a bit of the other semi final in the Club World Cup thing and yikes there are some nasty tackles. Hope we can avoid injuries.

Would be a miracle if we beat Aston Villa with that team but it's a good experience for the young ones. Not too fussed about the League Cup this year anyway.

Average age of 19 years, 6 months and 3 days which means this is our youngest starting XI of all time. Elliott, born in 2003, is the most experienced player with two top flight appearances. Also, the squad numbers add up to 737. This should go well.

pedro chrivella actually has the most appearances in all competitions.

5 appearances in 2015-2016 then out in the wilderness til 3 appearances this season

think he has one league appearance in those 8

Was there a reason why Liverpool couldn't or didn't get one of these two matches moved?

Wouldn't the league cup mean more than a Club World Cup Championship? Or is it the $$$$?

Will or can the FA fine LFC for fielding that kind of club?

Club World Cup is time-limited, all teams in Qatar. EFL Cup couldn't be moved, as any available date would have literally been after the next round.

Some transfer news then, Minamino on his way to Liverpool in January, release clause of only 7.25m. Seems like it's a done deal. That would be one hell of a bargain for such an exciting player.

Having medical in Liverpool today whilst everyone else is at the beach

probably the end for Lallana who is out of contract, and sadly the sign that we will never see Harry Wilson play for Liverpool

lots of attacking power but with the long term injury problems at Centre back and full back maybe a purchase there would be advisable
