The Liverpool FC Thread

Leeds were great second half tonight and really should have inflicted a 10th premier league defeat on LFC this season. What self respecting Manager or player wants to be given a place at Europe’s top table without earning the right to qualify. If they finish outside the top 4 it just emphasises how despicable this European super league proposal really is. And the same goes for my club and every club.

Liverpool are set to sign the French central defender Ibrahima Konaté from RB Leipzig, having fought off competition from several other Premier League clubs to agree a five-year deal with the 21-year-old.

Jürgen Klopp has followed the former Sochaux player for some time now and Liverpool are ready to pay defender’s release clause of €35m (£30.5m). Liverpool have had injury problems at centre-back throughout their Premier League title defence with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joël Matip all being ruled out for the rest of the season.

The injuries meant that Liverpool signed Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke and Ben Davies for £1.6m from Preston North End in January. The club still have the option of signing Kabak on a permanent transfer for £18m in the summer and the Turkish defender has impressed after a difficult start, forming a solid defensive partnership with Nathaniel Phillips in recent weeks.

Liverpool have a good relationship with RB Leipzig, having signed Naby Keita for £52.7m in 2018. Konaté has made 64 Bundesliga appearances for RB Leipzig since joining in 2017. Chelsea were one of the clubs interested in signing the player this summer but never got as far as making an official offer.

My 2 daughters and Suzanne's partner were over and outside when the match was on. I knew we were down at half-time but then David said we'd scored ... he (a Sunderland supporter) wasn't pleased, nor was my youngest who had Liverpool to win in some competition. There was much jubilation when it was deemed a no-goal. I said we still had long enough to score another one - much hilarity ensued.

Ha! Much hilarity ensued, indeed!  Howay the lads!

Justice rightly done for Newcastle after their 93rd min equaliser ruled out after TAA push caused the hand ball.

LFC though, the sooner their reign as “PL champions” is officially over the better. Never again please, once was cringing enough. Just awful.

Good to see justice finally done in the 96th minute.

Perez claiming the ESL dream is not dead, just dormant. If the Liverpools of this world have actually signed binding contracts, this could make for an interesting few months ahead from a legal perspective, especially if the rumoured £150M per club exit clauses are enforced. That’s one expensive break clause for any club. Liverpool and their clueless American owners may actually still decide to proceed with the project. Right now, after yesterday’s disaster against Newcastle, it might be their only hope of European football next season.

What happened to the centre back signed from Preston? Never heard of him since he signed even with everyone else filling the treatment room.

With the wheels falling off at Leicester & the games left fourth place should be achievable for Liverpool.

Even 5th will be UCL this season, as either Citeh or Chelsea will win and take that qualification. The only way 5th isn't UCL is is CFC win the UCL and then finish 6th. Ain't happening.
