The Liverpool FC Thread

It's difficult for MUFC to over achieve, unless we win the CL next season. That would be over and above any hopes from LVG this soon with the team he is building and given how far off the pace PL clubs now seem to be in that competition. As for sir Alex, he was the first to admit that we under achieved in Europe.

This season is par for where united are currently at. Next season the bar will be raised and expectations will have increased to winning a trophy which includes a top 2 finish in the PL. For LFC, being "another Spurs" then a cup run and a top 4 finish once every now and then is the regular par expectation. Which is why LFC did so great last season.

West Brom parked the bus and LFC failed to score in a 0-0 snore-fest of a match. Considering the team's lack of "real talent", this match convincingly demonstrates how pedestrian this Rogers Liverpool side is.

A win over Hull tomorrow nite and the gap to 4th would be down to four points (plus a goal difference disadvantage, so effectively five points).

LFC have to play Chelsea (but they will be champions by then, so might take it easy).

MUFC have to play the gooners.

All things are possible. Not probable, but possible.

Obviously all of this would depend on LFC rediscovering the ability to score goals.........................

Roy, last season Chelsea had no hope in hell of winning the Premier League but you remember what happened during that game? Chelsea will never "take it easy".

1-0 down to Hull City at half-time. Brendan and Co. need to ask some serious questions. If LFC want any chance of making the Champions League they must win every single remaining game. What are the actual chances of this happening? ........Not with the current squad.

Will a win over QPR on Saturday guarantee a europa league place?

Liverpool still haunted by the loss of Luis Suarez. The man really papered over the cracks of Liverpool and now the teams faults are clearly exposed.

So LFC need Villa to win the cup and get 7th, but if Arsenal win the cup then only 8th place will be good enough to avoid the europa league. Looks like they are screwed.

Cheeky article in the Liverpool Echo stating that Everton's defenders have scored more than Liverpool's strikers this season. :P In other news, Glen Johnson has stated the obvious and talked about the much needed LFC summer overhaul and how he plans to be a part of it. Honestly Glen, you are a pretty average player and have been at the club far too long. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, mate.

The gloating, transparent hatred and resentment is predictable - LFC are a shadow of what they were, it's clear for all to see.

LFC fans have had 25 years to get used to it but it's still a novelty for everyone else - or so it would seem.

A new manager isn't going to change anything because they will have the same budget that Rodgers would have.

LFC are unlikely to be hitting the high notes for some considerable time.

It's got nothing at all to do with team management, or whether or not Rodgers stays or goes. and anyone who thinks otherwise is not looking at the wider picture.

Its got everything to do with Senior (i.e. directorial) management / vision - or rather, lack of. I blame David Moores for managing the club with a corner-shop mentality when other clubs (Arsenal, MUFC) were thinking-big. And I further blame him for selling out to two American corporate raiders (bit of poetic justice that they eventually made a loss on the re-sale of the club - the bastards).

I'm fine with the idea that LFC are likely to finish somewhere between 5th and 10th for a good few seasons. Eventually they will catch up again, as the stadium revenue allows for top players to be sourced.

Why am I fine with it?

Because it's better than not being fine with it.

Hopefully the likes of Spurs and LFC take the europa league seriously next season but you can see why not when you look at how Everton have suffered. Considering it's so hard to get in the top 4 on a regular basis though, there's not much alternative. There is a CL place up for grabs for the winners after all. But you need a big squad to cope with all the fixtures and inevitably the lure of pushing for the CL ends up taking priority. It seems that clubs in other major european leagues take the europa prize seriously.

For fans it's a pain in the arse as it's even less Saturday football and for the clubs involved playing catch up in the table every weekend when teams have played already. Especially tiring having travelled home early hours on a Friday morning for players and fans.

Even if LFC find another Suarez type signing on the cheap(ish) and Sturridge has an injury free season like last, the number of fixtures and demands on the squad are in stark contrast to all the factors which led to last seasons fantastic achievement.
