Bob Dylan Bootleg Series Vol 12 : Cutting Edge 1965 - 66 Sessions

18 CDs of every mumble, cough and fart seems a bit OTT.

The 2CD edition will do for me.

Same here. Not sure why anyone would want to listen to an entire CD of rehearsals for Like a Rolling Stone.

Would have liked something from the '76 tour or the early Slow Train Coming shows.

The 6 CD edition is essential. And if I didn't already have A LOT of stuff from that era, I'd be seriously considering buying the 18 CD edition...

Exciting news.

This is the way to care for an extensive archive. Bruce's people are miles behind in this regard.

I agree that the 18 discer may be too much, though.

Bruce just won't let go the same way Dylan has. Too much of a control freak I suspect.

Depends on what's on the 18 discs :D If there's, for instance, a couple of live shows, it'll be one hell of a collection...

Landau doesn't want us to know that Bruce's G string was slightly but perceptibly flat on the 2nd acoustic home demo of Chevrolet Deluxe. He thinks it will kill Bruce's reputation as a serious artist

18 discs, fuck me... even if I had the money to buy this, there's no way I'd have the time to actually really listen to it with two young kids tearing up the house on a daily basis and a busy (hectic!) dayjob and all that normal life stuff.

The 2 disc version will have to suffice. Not the most exciting Bootleg Series release, I have to say... as someone else said further up... a 1976 gig would have been cool, or something not yet touched by the Bootleg Series... dunno. I'm sure it'll be good though... and I'll have to get that 2 CD version just to continue the series on my CD shelves.

The time issue is key for me too and I don't even have kids! Applies to all these archive sets by any artist. I've hardly listened to the most recent two.

Remember when you were a teenager and you'd have time to savour every last note of of every album you owned and you could even remember all the lyrics? Just not practical or possible as you get older unless you are a lottery winner or such

Top post Demos , I would listen to an album maybe 50 times and know every note

The new Grateful Dead release is 80 yes 80 albums , I've opted for the 2 cd version

A 1976 gig might be a part of the Blood On The Tracks box, which I hope will be the next installment of the Bootleg Series...

I'm pretty excited about this release, though. For one thing, it's the most productive period of his career... And while I agree that 18 discs might be a little too much, I also think that this particular period is so important that if Dylan thinks it takes 18 discs to do it justice, then so be it...

Question for you Potstan......I know you LOVE Bob Dylan (even more than Bruce I suspect) but even you have to admit that 18 .......I will say it again.....18 CD's is excessive.

Well, yes and no... Try to look at it from the point of view of a serious collector... If you bought the 18CD set, you could say "I have every take of every song Bob recorded between 1965 and 1966". That's pretty cool, don't you think?

That said, there's no way I can afford the complete set. And even if I could, I'd most probably still go with the 6CD edition...

As for me loving Dylan more than Bruce, I think you're right... Simply because I love poetry... and while Bruce is a great musician and an excellent storyteller, Dylan's songs are more than just songs (if you know what I mean)...

I do know what you mean about Dylan's songs. However, outside of Bob's fanboy inner circle most people would just think your a little obsessed boasting about having every take of every song Bob recorded between 1965 and 1966. Do you know what I mean?

Sure I do. I wasn't talking about myself... It's just that I know of 10-15 people who have already pre-ordered the 18CD set (all Dylan freaks) :D I think the 18CD set is for completists and completists only... I mean, I don't know to what extent you're familiar with the LiveNirvana community, but there's guys who own every version of every surfaced Nirvana show (both video and audio). Now THAT is crazy...

its getting released due to copyright issues.

the previous ones they put out got booted so they figured they put out as a regular release and make some money off of it.
