Sadly, Andy the Quokka, if he *is* found, can't go back home to Rottnest - because he's been exposed to too many bugs on the mainland :-(

#FreeStevetheQuokka

the BBC says he answers to the name steve.

You'll need to get a ferry to Rotto if you want to see Quokka's for yourself though.  Unless you bump into Steve of course.

PLEASE SHARE - The Rottnest Island Authority is seeking information regarding the whereabouts of an escaped Quokka, believed to go by the name of Steve.

Steve was last seen at the Regional Resource Recovery Centre in Canning Vale on Wednesday 4 January 2017.

He appears to have escaped from Rottnest Island, possibly on board a rubbish barge, so we seem to be dealing with a very smart, crafty Quokka.

...

Steve is described as small, cute and furry. He may use his cuteness to trick unsuspecting humans into giving him food.

Rumours that Steve was seen holding GA Bruce Springsteen tickets prior to his escape are so far unconfirmed

No diss intended, but I can see why the marketing folk emphasise the koala over the quokka :P

You can't play soccer with a Koala, or at any rate it's a lot more difficult!

Sorry that was very un PC and I would never do it.

Again - marsupials, not rats.  And they're pretty cute up close.

Oops, the text with my previous post didn't come through. So will try again ...

Australia's former tourism Minister didn't love koalas  - in the 80s, Minister John Brown was famously quoted as saying they were "rotten little things" and tourists would discover "its flea-ridden, it piddles on you, it stinks and it scratches". Nobody says that about our quokkas. But, hey Putin clearly loves a koala so their reputation is intact.

The Quokka is actually a much more social butterfly than koalas are - and well known for being a happy participant in selfies!
