The Manchester United thread

Recommended Posts

Ok time to retire the 2016/17 thread and make one to last as long as united fans and ABU lakers wish to post on it.

Last season was very decent. We picked up three pieces of silverware and two major trophies. As a welcome bonus, we also returned to the champions league.

Whilst finishing 6th in the PL has to be hugely disappointing, this club is judged on trophies, and chalking up a record 42 majors from an English club, and joining Bayern Munich as the only two clubs to win every major world honour in the history of club football, makes it a historic season in the record books.

Now that's the past taken care of and nicely boxed up, it's time to repeat the silverware haul and focus on the future.

Bring on the 2017/18 season,

Come on United!

It looks very much like Rooney is going back to Everton, Everton fans must have forgiven him kissing the Man utd badge

It's a wonderful story the Rooney return. He left as Everton's best player and he returns, as Everton's best player :P Fitting.

Rooney. The Mercenaries Mercenary.

Can't believe Everton are lining his pockets again. Left the club he loved with his best years ahead of him, kissed his new clubs badge at Goodison and returns wY past his best.

If you ever needed proof that footballs mad then combine it with 100m for Lukaku and there you have it.

If i was an Everton fan, i'd be gutted that he signed.  he's now said he's been wearing Everton PJs for the last 13 years...nah i doubt that.

Everton have dropped a massive bollock signing him, also with Pickford, he's not that good, certainly not worth 30 million..and that's not just because I'm a Newcastle fan.

Time will tell, should be interesting.

I'd love Rooney at Newcastle United of course i would, he's a crackin' player.

Carrick announced as new club captain. Sensible move. Whilst he won't play every week his title winning experience on and off the pitch is going to help this squad develop.

The average age of the squad on the pre-season tour is less than 25 now and threre is a hunger to win trophies, not least from Lukaku. Carrick can help lead them the way.

Mourinho experimented with 3 at the back and I can see that happening often in the premier league this season. Shaw (when fit) and Valencia are more natural wing backs than full backs.

LVG tried it with Jonny Evans / Smalling / Jones and they just couldn't fathom it. No surprise really as British lads brought up on a rigid back four system.

We now have intelligent adaptable central defenders like Lindleoff Blind and Bailly who would make a great back 3.

Encouraging too to see how Rashford and Lukaku can play together. We are going to need them both scoring regularly this season. Rashford has filled out like Ronaldo did when he reached the same age and he is going to be a game changer.

don't think rashford was on the field at the same time as lukaku - it was martial who played 2nd half with lukaku

Correct, but Jose has now said he will look to play Lukaku and Rashford together at times during the season. Most likely to be in the majority of home games when we find teams hard to break down. He's got to turn all those home draws into wins somehow.
