About 3 years ago I had an active thread on songs about Springsteen. It was great fun to find extra tracks. I though I would give an update as I have nearly 200 tracks now.

The attached is my list pulled from my itunes playlist. A lot of the hard yards originally came from this site  http://members.tripod.com/nebraska_99/parodysongs1.html

A whole load of the newer ones come from bandcamp so quality varies.

It is is as up to date a possible with Eminem's track from Chloraspetic (Revival) and Strawbs track from Ferrymans' Curse ( The Nails From the hands of Christ).

Anybody see any omissions?

Yeah... Dave thinks anything and  everything is about Bruce though.

Well, if you want it to be complete, you've got to have a song of one of my bands, Grave Dancers. :)

"I never understood why I say
I'd really like it if you'd stay
There are no songs in my collection
That explain the things you do
Dylan, Springsteen and Waits
I guess they never actually met you"

Nicely done!

I may have missed it but I didn't see Glen Hansard's Roll On Slow?

Thanks I missed that release just a few days ago on 17th Jan. As it happens I was over in NYC at Broadway show of some sort that day ;-)

Ordered the full album now.

EDIT

I realise now there was a thread pointing this out on Seth Myers show on Jan 19th with Max on Drums. He really hits those toms when the E St line is sung.

That fits the bill.

Did the demos land you anything more?

It's only for songs that are about Bruce? Not songs that have clear references?

Yeah I am slightly conflicted as I think you could put most of gaslight anthems songs in there thematically but this is a fair cop. I'll add it.

I'm also adding Barfruit Blues by The Hold Steady which I sat on the fence about:

Holly can't speak
She don't feel all that sweet
About the places she sometimes has to go to get some sleep
She said "I'm sorry, people think I'm pretty." These clever kids are killing me
For one they ain't that clever
Number two, it really sucks when you get stuck here with these Trevors
This was supposed to be a party
Half the crowd is calling out for Born to Run
the other half is calling out for Born to Lose

Baby, we were born to choose
We got the last call bar band really really really big decision blues
We were born to bruise.

Hello from Switzerland.

One of the best known bands in Switzerland is called Züri West. They released 1991 the album Arturo Bandini which includes the song " Es hätt es eelechs Lied gä"

The title means "it would have been a honest song". A glass of red wine fell over the typewriter so the song is gone now... if this would not have happened, it would have been a honest song... better then Springsteen and Dylan...

It's a funny and good song

Super effort that!

Quite a catalogue. I had probably come across about a third at the most.

I still remember when I heard the Rick Springfield song ‘Bruce’ the first time. I was a massive Springsteen fan, but Rick Springfield (being Australian) had a far bigger profile here in Australia at the time. My brother put on his new Rick Springfield album only for Rick to be singing a song (I think it was the last song on side two) about being mistaken for a greater artist i.e. Bruce.

I instantly earned bragging rights, a position I have never relinquished.

That is an impressive database. It is just a pity that many of the songs themselves are a bit rubbish.

Cheers for the post.
