The 'new American resistance' raises its head again... at last.

The problems we are experiencing here in the states are our problems. We don't need suggestions from Rotterdam. The American people have not lost touch with common decency, that is a fringe element of this country and it can be found in every white country on earth. Our Moronic president is already feeling the pressure of the American people and promising to sign and stop the separations. He will stall but this atrocity will end without any help or even pressure from outside.

What the fuck is a white country?

What does that have to do with outsiders being told not to have views on the crisis or to keep their suggestions to themselves?

Or, if we send busses do we get to have a say as to how the crisis is being handled?

any country with a white majority (Likely those with merely a white presence) has a fringe element of white supremacist/Nazi/kkk/arian nation/alt right assholes. Every single one.

If Canada steps up and says they will take all of the people at the border I guarantee you we would have no choice but to grant you free passage to transport them through. Probably with a very secure military escort. How could we refuse?

But you somehow managed to elect a president who is all of the above. That's the problem.

The rest of the world has an obligation to force the United States to honour its treaty obligations.

In 1995 the United States signed the Convention on the Right of the Child. Article 9 (1) requires that "States Parties shall ensure that a child shall not be separated from his or her parents against their will", subject to derogations that relate to the safety of the child. Article 9(3) requires "States Parties shall respect the right of the child who is separated from one or both parents to maintain personal relations and direct contact with both parents on a regular basis, except if it is contrary to the child's best interests.".

The recent American policy has placed the United States in violation of its treaty obligations in both cases. Hopefully, President Trump's Executive Order will eventually bring the United States into compliance. We in the international community need to monitor it's compliance.

November will be a defining election, for the United States and the world. This is not about policy, it is about orientation. Under President Trump the United States "America First" policy has made the rest of the world "the other". If the American people chose to move in this direction, that is their right. It will then be time, though. for the rest of us to react and exclude the United States and it's citizens from those institutions designed to further and progress western liberal democratic values.

Bruce speaks, the President caves. Life is as it should be. May it continue.

We're sorry, we have an exploitable flawed system and a large stupid populace. Most countries do. We're working on it. I can't even promise you we won't do it again in 2020. I wish I could. I lost my ability to predict what voters will do in this country when Bush won reelection. We have an insane election system. Only 20% of the adult population voted for Trump. It's a lot I know and it's a disturbing number but it's still just 20% of us. A lot of those are just stupid people who don't read newspapers or even watch the news. They watch reruns of Friends. Many of them didn't know what they were voting for and probably don't even realize it now.

@rosiejaneymary I usually follow the Gallup polls. From what I gather it is a quite dependable poll.

@BluebonnetsI have young children myself and work with families professionally. Looking at my children and knowing through my job what the impact of such trauma can be is a large part of what touches me in this crisis. Immigration is a big issue here in Europe as well and our refugees face dire circumstances as well. These are global issues. That’s why I think that our commitment to such issues shouldn’t stop at those borders. Especially since some of the motivations for the refugees at the Mexican border find their roots in a global drug problem. The western cociane consumption has wreaked havoc on the rule of law in many South American countries. Most of these people are simply trying to find a safer and brighter future. Our European immigration issues also have some roots in global issues that destabilized the Middle East. Issues in which Europe and the US played their part. That’s why @ThePhisherman I do not believe in your philosophy that this should not be an issue I need concern myself with. I think a global commitment to civil rights issues can only advance such causes.

Robo, I am not sure Trump’s style of leadership has been a surprise to anybody. Which is what I think people were looking for. Something different. Something outside of the establishment. He is certainly that. It’s sad to me that he was the anti-establishment candidate, but he was and he’s what we got. I think the hope has to be that a more grounded anti-establishment candidate emerges for 2020.

What's to discuss. As always his words delivered perfectly the feelings of this nation. He has a perfect record of being on the right side of everything. Except releasing recordings.

Oh happy day! :)

I wasn't aware of this and was just thinking how pleasant it was to have so many more voices being heard.

Needless to say, the mods are likely working overtime to clean up this thread as what permeated the Fight Club is now here on the main board.  Even so, I will miss the FC community.  I understand and respect the decision, but those of us who have been there a long time and remained respectful must suffer for those who could not control themselves.

I was there from the start.

And I won't miss it one iota. Too many pals have jumped ship because of it.

Anyway … looking forward to us all getting along merrily.

Indeed - but things that might have once been tolerated there won't be tolerated on the main page.

I too will miss it, sadly like many other things in life, the actions of a few create difficulties for the many.  But Eileen is right, many of our long time members (and friends) have left due to things that have happened in that forum over the years.  Perhaps those ones will consider a return and join us in discussing what we are REALLY here for, the one thing we have in common - our love for Bruce and his music

Now, I gotta head over to the Footie threads and make sure that rumble is under control ;)

I will miss it. I didn't often comment, but I read plenty and learnt quite a bit. However, completely understand this decision.

I think Bruce is acutely aware that his political capital is limited, and so he's become more selective in how he uses it.

So why did you post there so often if you had no use for it?

I'm completely flabbergasted myself.

Harrumph! I mean, wait a minute, I took all my time today to change me avatar and signature to be 'relevant' and boom! The Underworld has gone under :( I enjoyed reading it very much - learned a lot about you 'people' more so than the actual 'politics' and I think it was a big part of this forum. It'll most likely spill over into the Sir Kutt and then what?? I hope it's just a hiatus personally. Sheesh, the BTX political threads have a lot more vitriol in them. I'm using too many posh words :D Night, night!

I realize it was part of the site but so is Lion's Den.  I don't post there just coz it's part of the site.   Point being if we don't like something we can avoid it.
