Have a great time.

Going to see Joe Jackson in Toronto next Monday. Haven’t seen him since the 80s, so got his new CD to prepare for the show, and he still has the same voice!  I quite like it.

August 31 in Missoula the main act is The Mountain Goats, whom I've never heard of but Lydia Loveless is the opening act and she's wonderful!

Last night was the Joe Jackson show.  I was in the balcony, third row from the back - really far back, geez.   No opening act.   He played songs basically from four albums, one from each decade, he explained, including his new album Fool.

The stage was gorgeous - huge drapey curtains that appeared either neutral, or multicoloured, or solid strong colours, depending on the lighting.

Joe’s voice sounds to me exactly like it did in the 80s, but maybe he can’t hit the high notes anymore, because in Real Men (LOVE that song), he had the guitar make the high notes.

I checked his age, and he’s only 64, but Joe spent the entire show sitting behind a keyboard.  Even when the song didn’t have any keyboards, he sang from that spot.  He came out for a bow at the end, and seemed to walk just fine.  I’ve only seen him once live before, in the early 80s, but think he was standing then.

He talked some, and was funny and charming.

This was the most shocking bit for me though - his last song in the main set was I’m The Man.  Now, who can sit still for that?  I was bouncing around like crazy, (in my seat because I didn’t want to fall down the stairs.)  But get this:  I could see all the front row people, and not a single one of them was dancing, or standing, or even bopping their head in their seat.  It was crazy!  What’s with people???

People finally stood during the encore, and a couple people off to the side were dancing a bit, but that was it.  Overall, good show - wish I was closer, obviously.

We went to see Steve Harley last Monday. It was the first time I've seen him, despite being quite a fan.

It was a trio set up. Steve was on a crutch and a bar stool , having recently broken a hip ,( not sure if his childhood polio would make this worse ) but seemed happy.

A good selection of songs from over the years...nothing from Timeless Flight ( my fave LP). Great version of Sebastian. Best of all was the opener...a cover of Dylan's Love Minus zero ( is that the title ?)

Lucky you! Purely subjective, but I don’t believe anyone is currently making better music than Jason Isbell.

OK, Saturday night was the Garth Brooks show. What a great performance. From the start of the show to the end, I had the biggest smile on my face. Made 70,000 people feel like they all were sitting in the front row. No politic's!!! No Message!!! Just good ole fun. He brought 2 background singers which were lovely, but not needed as about 50,000 of the 70,000 knew every word to every song.

And for the encore he came out by himself until the very last song. And picked out signs in the crowd, and did those tunes with just a guitar and him, and he sang to that person that brought the sign. Quite amazing. Was not expecting this. And all I can say is WOW.

I went for my wife as she is a big fan, and she goes to shows with me that she doesn't care for. So I paid her back. But I can honestly say if you get a chance to go, no matter what you think of his music and or type of music. Go be entertained for about 2 hours 20 minutes. $80.00 US, which is basically nothing in today's standards.

I really hate to brag, but I now actually have AN WHOLE GIG on my list for 2019... :D

I'll be going to the gig on the 6th of June. and if I look at his website, it is definitely listed as a Ben Harper gig, not Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals. We rarely get solo gigs here so I'm really excited for this.
