Did Boo Hewerdine sing Patience Of Angels? Love that song; great to see it given back. How was Nick Lowe? Saw him solo acoustic last year and enjoyed the show a lot. Couldn't fit it his Milton Keynes show, unfortunately. Great memories of seeing him regularly with Rockpile back in the day. That green ? suit!

Great memories of seeing him regularly with Rockpile back in the day. That green ? suit! Yes, Boo sang that. There were also a couple of songs with Siobhan Miller. I saw her supporting Eddi last year but didn't remember her being as good as she was. Eddi also brought on a local-ish girl called Katie Spencer who did a song. Coincidentally Katie had also supported Nick Lowe on Tuesday. I thought he was terrific. Mid set, Los Straitjackets did a few instrumentals including I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass, meaning that Nick didn't sing that. Highlights, to me, were Cruel To Be Kind and I Knew The Bride, two songs that I've loved for 40 years.
Rizla
Been a quiet year so far. Expenses! 25 Jan Skids Oxford 12 Mar The Stranglers Reading 6 June John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett local venue 14 July Grace Jones Blackheath Festival Rag'n'Bone Man UB40 (Ali & Astro) 13 Sep China Crisis Reading 14 Nov Ezra Furman Kentish Town Hope to fill in some more. Grace Jones was utterly fabulous! She was the only reason I went to that as I've been wanting to see her for a long time, but she only seems to do festival-type gigs these days, which isn't usually convenient. Should another opportunity to see her come along, I shall not hesitate.

whispered secret
Josh Ritter yesterday evening at Union Chapel, Islington - what a fantastic show. He and the band squashed into the pulpit for a few songs, which was pretty special. He has such a great stage presence and really looks like he is enjoying himself. He sung a new song 'Gospel of America', simply stunning.

Walker in the sun
An enjoyable night out. Good but not great. Others may disagree, of course. The stumbling block for me is that, when all is said and done, they're a bit of a one trick (rockabilly) pony. After an hour or so I was finding it a bit samey. Great to see the effort folks went to dress for the occasion, tho'. Be-quiffed, heavily tattooed rockers and girls in great 50's style dresses. Would loved to have taken some pics in the q but a bit intimidating! I'm guessing they'll attract a similar if not more so crowd stateside?

Troublette
Saw Jackson Browne last night in Missoula at what was the opening night of his tour. It was an outdoor venue which ended up being cleared out right before the show was to start do to an advancing thunder storm. The show started two hours late but was very enjoyable. His voice was a little rough in a few songs but overall good. The sound was great. It wasn't cranked up so I didn't have to use my music earplugs and you could hear each instrument. I had seen him once before back in 1983 in Syracuse.
Born To Walk
Added a couple at the end of August. Martyn Joseph we know all about, but Israel Nash is a new name to me. Pocklington Arts Centre punches well above its weight in booking acts into a 200 seat venue 10 miles outside York in the middle of nowhere. I've been booking to see acts I don't know in an attempt to lower the average age of my list whilst increasing the street cred! Israel Nash is one such booking. Listening to his new album now and it sounds like it could be a great show. https://www.gazetteherald.co.uk/news/17788697.rock-roll-live-music/?ref=fbshr&fbclid=IwAR2lnWdWiU8mCCcDu2mf4LQg0xIYddMo-38QsxEHzDAC8F1i32cUGdX0Ds0 Jan 26 - Paul Carrack Feb 8 - Steve Forbert Feb 24 - Steve Harley Feb 27 & Mar 10 - The Searchers Mar 6 - Edwina Hayes Mar 11 - 10CC Apr 5 - Bootleg Beatles Apr 18 - Art Garfunkel May 9 - Chris Norman May 27 - Manic Street Preachers Jun 25 - Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets Jun 27 - Eddi Reader Aug 28 - Israel Nash Aug 30 - Martyn Joseph Sep 27 - Bootleg Beatles with The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Oct 3 - Keston Cobbler's Club Oct 14 - Ralph McTell Oct 17 - Chris De Burgh Oct 24 - Al Stewart Oct 26 - Lissie Oct 27 - Barbara Dickson & Rab Noakes (Support by Edwina Hayes) Nov 15 - Dr Hook (Dennis Locorriere) Cancelled Nov 16 - Squeeze & Heaven 17 Nov 29 - Turin Brakes Dec 13 - Kate Rusby 1
