The River - typo

Recommended Posts

Just been given The River on vinyl for my birthday and noticed Held Up Without A Gun is written on the sleeve between Point Blank and Cadillac Ranch.

It's obviously not on the record but was it intended to go there? And is it worth more? :D

It was supposed to go on the album, but was taken off very late. The printing of the album cover had already begun in Holland, so it's included on quite a few Holland-pressed releases. Don't think it's very rare, though. I have a copy with a typo, bought in 1986.

Thanks for the info. Now to get the rest on (original) vinyl!

When I saw the typo I mentioned the BTR error.

Is there a list of all errors on releases anywhere?

The River typo was never corrected with later pressings; this reason it is not really rare.

It is also on my copy bought in 1985.

Maybe it should be noted the typo is on the inner sleeve and not on the back cover of the album.

Haven't checked, but is the typo still there on the remaster?

Interesting project.

First one I thought of is the misspelling of CC's name on the Greetings sleeve.

Cadillac Ranch misspelled on the fat box release of Live 7585.

A list of all errors in the Tracks booklet would be a long list.

Most errors seem to be wrong recording dates of songs.

I remember when I got the album I thought Held up Without a Gun was an alternative title title for Point Blank it was many years later that I discovered it was a separate song.

So....If  Held Up would have been on the River album; then there would have been another song on the B Side of Hungry Heart; instead of staying in the vault until release of Tracks.

And the master tape of Held Up would not have been lost.

More about it: some -not all- errors were -apparently- made because the husband of Suki Lahav (from Israël) wrote down recording dates like: 3 April, as 3/4; which the Americans who compiled Tracks 'translated' as 4/3, 4 March.

What happened when they got to a date like, say March 21st (21/3)... they just all stood there scratching their heads? Just made something up?

Yes. Someone should introduce the metric system to them also.
