PSA for everybody who hasn't been able to listen to the single via E Street or other means -

It's now live on Spotify, which I assume means it's up on other streaming platforms too?

It was on Spotify but greyed out for a while earlier. Should be available worldwide now though (I'm in Singapore)!

Can't get it here in Ireland yet

Wow, this is great news! I can't believe this is actually happening after all the rumours! I just got so excited I don't think I can sleep tonight…

I think the album cover is actually pretty good compared to many other album covers in Bruce's catalogue.

Here's a Paste article about it.

Bruce Springsteen Announces New Studio Album Western Stars, His First in Five Years

Bruce Springsteen  has a new album on the way. The Boss will debut Western Stars, his first studio album in five years and his 19th overall, on June 14 via Columbia Records. Excuse the obnoxiously placed song reference, but … we’re kind of on fire about it.

After posting a series of cryptic, caption-less photos like the one below to his social accounts, Springsteen made his grand return official on Thursday. He does so alongside his wife Patti Scialfa, who has vocal contributions on four tracks, and Ron Aniello, who co-produced Western Stars alongside Springsteen, and chips in bass, keyboard and other instruments.

If the name didn’t already drop a few hints, Western Stars is poised to deliver a filmic saga of pensive Americana a la John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. “This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character-driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements,” Springsteen explains in a statement, adding, “It’s a jewel box of a record.” Expect motifs of highways and desert spaces alongside references to both isolation and community, all channeled through music inspirational pulling from SoCal pop records of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

Such a route may be somewhat uncharted territory for Springsteen sonically; SoCal pop is a distinctly bell-bottomed sound defined by the likes of The Beach Boys’ idyllic musings and America’s “A Horse With No Name,” underpinned by those layered harmonies and electric-folk backdrops that were the signature of The Byrds and Eagles. Yet there remains a bit of overlap in the thematic explorations of them both— that telltale yearning for a promised American Dream, and the lamentation when it’s nowhere to be found, except in occasional glimpses in the freedom of an open road. It’s precisely the kind of subject matter, and the ability to view it both critically and romantically, that has solidified Springsteen’s mystique.

Springsteen will release the album’s first single, titled “Hello Sunshine,” at midnight ET on Friday, along with an accompanying music video.

Western Stars Tracklist:
01. Hitch Hikin’
02. The Wayfarer
03. Tucson Train
04. Western Stars
05. Sleepy Joe’s Café
06. Drive Fast (The Stuntman)
07. Chasin’ Wild Horses
08. Sundown
09. Somewhere North of Nashville
10. Stones
11. There Goes My Miracle
12. Hello Sunshine
13. Moonlight Motel

Well, PCS, the gang seems excited.

The only records on which I've ever played barely sold locally to close friends and family and never made it to a second printing.

I played in horn bands that wore suits and patent leather shoes on the bandstand.

In other words, everybody looked more like Silvio than Little Steven. Our real hair looked like his wig.

Nice to see somebody almost as old as I generating some excitement, though.  Good for the Boss.

Thank you to everybody who has PMd me with links, what a wonderful Community this is :)

It sounds pretty good to me, and better with each listen. Listening to it gives a better idea of what the album may sound like. Roll on 14 June (or June 14 if you're in America :P)

I think it's nice, but no more than that.  Not a fan of his phrasing twang on it and I find the pedal steel intrusive.

Lots of Bruce clichés on it ("empty streets" etc) and I can see why he sat on it for five years.  Were it an outtake on Tracks 2 then I'd probably see it differently.

Probably a good choice for the first track off of the album as it dovetails nicely with the 'quiet voice' he employed on the SOB shows.

Overall, it's nice.  Hoping for much better on the album.

I'd go with this.

It's a nice song, album filler love-songy type stuff.

But the …...feel...…(if that's the right word), of the song points in a positive direction for me.

Mebbe's it's an age thing but I'm getting more and more into, I dunno Country or traditional Americana or whatever the right term is genre wise.

I hope we get a socially aware, world-view   record, in terms of content, with the fucked up state of this planet meantime, we need Bruce doing best Bruce.

Historically, he's done stripped back really well, so let's just see...…...

This will be the first album without Bruce on the cover, won’t it?

I think the horse is symbolic of what Bruce understands he is not anymore.

Physically fit, energetic, shiny. Erotic, if you want. It looks strong willed and dominant, a rebellious winner.

I think Bruce by now has accepted the laws of nature, I don't think he will be on any future covers.

I’ve heard it once. Sounds like a cross between Secret Garden, Hunter of Invisible Game, and Johnny Cash. Not overly impressed with the first listen. Could definitely do without the strings.

As with all Springsteen releases, I will listen to it incessantly and my view will evolve as time goes on.

That point you make about “the feel” is right for me.

Some lovely lines in there too. Particularly the “fall in love with lonely, you end up that way” one.

Please be aware that exchanging illegal copies of official material is not permitted on Greasy Lake, whether publicly or through the PM system. So please refrain from asking for PM's with links to the song, thank you.
