That bastard, wait....I don't have a daughter.

Not sure Bruce is that picky, I think wives and girlfriends should be considered fair game here also...

Love that lyric. It sounds both erotic and romantic, instead of cheesy. It's a thin line with that type of lyric but he manages to be on the right side of that line.

Edit: The beauty of the song and the way Bruce sings the lyric helps too.

That girl in that motel room who poured him another whiskey is somebody’s daughter

His songwriting, when it comes to writing about the adult narrator having casual sex, not with the woman he loves, is beautifully painful.

Reno, Highway 29, Loose Change, The Little Things, ...

And of course near Greasy Lake!:)  With Crazy Janey in the dirt, singing their birthday songs.:)

In Candy's Room.

In Maria's Bed.

On the floor, looking for a moment when the world seems right.

In that old abandoned beachhouse while getting wasted in the heat (But only IF Terry would be a girl; but he is a boy:) (could still sleep together though; only sleep together when they are heterosexual boys, and maybe more than only sleeping if not).

In a bedroom locked, with whispers of soft refusal.

With Janey before she sleeps with sheets damp of sweat and before she wants to share her pillow.

Down to where the fields were green, where he got Mary pregnant.

The place where he let his Ramrod rock.

With Dirty Annie in the drive-in.

In an empty house where she let slip off her blouse.

Where he chased the heat of her blood like it was the holy grail.

The place where she was The Red Sea and he was Moses.

The house of the little girl where her Daddy left her all alone.

In the 1976 and 1977 live versions of Something In The Night he picked up a female hitchhiker.

In the studio version 'her to the floor' is maybe/probably/likely 'the gas down as deep (fast) as possible'. Or maybe not.

But the various possible different interpretations just add to the greatness of the song.

Neither of my daughters rate him, so he'll be all alone on that hill in the darkness on the edge of town, 'round our way.
