The continuous Lakers cover Bruce thread

Recommended Posts

This is from about 6 years ago when I sat in with a band for a few songs. That’s me with the telecaster

Awesome to see this thread up and running! I've got a few videos to submit, but let's start with one I did today. Here's my cover of Bruce & Joe Grushecky's HOMESTEAD.

Love hearing your covers everybody! The more the Mary-er!

I’ll get this started with a bit of cheating.

My first band recorded a version of You Can’t Sit Down. It’s not Bruce but I got to know the song because of him.

Keep ‘em coming!

Fuckin’ love it. Awesome!

I used to do a good Growin’ up and 7 nights to rock with my last band. Alas, no audio or video exists as far as I’m aware but I will be posting some other stuff here very soon. Great thread!

The only Bruce covers I have really done are the one for the completions we do here. I have TONS of cell phone recordings of random Springsteen songs. It’s whatever kind of mood I’m in at the time I guess depends on what I play.

Here's something. Back in 2012 I recorded my own version of Nebraska (the whole damn album) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of it's release. I tried to make all of them 'my own' and many (all?) are a million miles away from any versions that Bruce has done. It's audacious to say the least. Make of it what you will: Deliver me from Nowhere.

That is really impressive! I particularly liked Highway Patrolman and Used Car.

Thanks for giving them a listen and the kind words. I hadn’t listened to them myself for many a year. Frankly, I can’t really remember much about the recording but having had a quick skim of them I’ll admit that it’s a bit hit and miss. Some are certainly better than others. Points for the sheer audacity, though!

I keep forgetting to give this a listen. I’ll try to remember on my commute later today! I tried to do the same once but it was shit!

Any chance we can get this thread pinned before it falls of the edge of the world? To help resurrect it, here's my cover of Kingdom of Days:

I'll admit, I wasn't into the intro, but that version is a slow burner that builds. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the feedback - slow burner is absolutely right. I kind of went for atmospheric/romantic at the start and then wanted it to build and build. Not sure I completely succeeded but I'm pretty happy with the end result. Sure, it won't float everyone's boat but that's WOAD material for you! :D
