Well the cover art of "Western Stars" sure doesn't help matters

Interesting that you say that - I'm a jazz fan and I think it's actually one of the reasons I love Bruce's rock music more than many other more straightforward rock musicians. He experiments, wildly and wonderfully, and his music goes from rock and roll to rock and soul, with jazz and swing elements thrown in as well. When I first heard The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle, I couldn't believe what I was hearing! And the entire live Dublin album is a heady, brilliant mix of genres - occasionally in the space of one song!!

im ok with soul and swingish sounds but the jazz element might just be why i had to work so hard to love the 2nd album

i know when i was studying music in high school i just lost complete interest once we got on to jazz

The problem I believe with sales of this new one WS and WB is the press releases before the album's releases.

Words like Rap, banjo's, Gospel for WB. May have turned a lot of people away.

WS, words like Glen Campbell, Strings, Horns

Maybe.  It’s clear there are those who really do not like any of that.

OTOH, like Seeger Sessions, it might attract fans of those genres of music who aren’t necessarily ‘Bruce’ fans per se.

And a whole bunch of us die hards (raises hand!) actually do love that strings, horns, Glen Campbell, etc stuff.

In any event... it’s still number one on all kinds of charts.

And I dig it. Just not for me. A little over 44,000 sold in less than a week. I bet that would be 44,000 dye hard Bruce fans. The truth in the sales will come next week. I hope it does better.

Seems like the japanese chart has been published.

Madonna at #11
Bruce at #16

(Not Bruce' strongest market…)

The 40th anniversary vinyl release I'd guess.

It’s kind of funny. I love a good banjo tune, songs with strings.  I like horns, I can get into some country music. I just don’t think this album does any of it very well.

Agreed. Those words created low expectations for me fo' sho' but I ended up loving both albums...Western Stars much more. It's a masterpiece. Best since Tunnel Of Love.

In DJ’s defense, and in the spirit of Marie Kondo... listen to what sparks joy.

Yes, tons of great non Bruce music out there to throughly enjoy.  But really, so what??

Life is too short to not do that which sparks your own personal joy!

isnt Marie Kondo a sweet heart

she is so nice

and she doesn't actually make you throw all your stuff out - just the things that bog you down and don't spark joy as you say

I agree with WB, love that album. WS is just not my style, not that I haven't given it a chance.

Just released and yet Amazon.com lists the cd today (20th) as back in stock on the 25th and the lp "usually ships in 1 to 4 weeks. Possibly an indication that it is selling well?

I saw that too and figured it was selling better than they had thought.

It would be great to see Bruce score another US number one.  I think he should arguably be number two in the all-time list after The Beatles for number ones IF he hits number one again.  Jay-Z (officially 14) has been bolstered by three collaborative albums.   So 11 for real therefore?  Bruce on 11 at present.  Twelve beckons maybe.
