Review: Bruce Springsteen’s “Western Stars: Songs From The Film”

Recommended Posts

who would have thought 35 years ago when my school friends complained that Bruce was an old man, that at 70 he would still be so very easy on the eye ;)

Nice review.

However, and everyone knows that it's not like me to be in the least bit pedantic , but:

"rather than touring it as he’s done for the last eighteen."

The only word I can say is "Nebraska"

Sorry for the interruption, I'll crawl  back under my rock now.

I read over that sentence three times and had a feeling something was off. Cheers for the confirmation

Really, really good. Subtle differences here and there.

Hitch Hiking, Wayfarer, Sunshine, Wild Horses, Miracle all immediately strike me as better than the album version.

Just a thing of beauty really.

I planned on playing MSG 1988 at the gym today, but that was scrapped in favour of this the second "Tucson Train" kicked in.

Looking forward to a bit of the competition of Songs From The Film vs LA 1999 vs Archive #48 over the next few days/weeks for my undivided listening attention.

I've got my fingers in my ears and going lalalalalala too :D
I almost clicked on that Rhinestone Cowboy clip but no!  Going to wait!

It's a great listen.  I think I prefer it to the album.  Although, Bruce's voice sounds much more worn and tired.  No great surprise as there's a long long time between the two records.

Good. It'll match the lyrics/sentiments very well.

I know I bang on about how great Bob The God Clearmountain is, but he's surpassed himself on this.  It's a stunning mix.

And the five strong girl choir really enhance this record.

Moonlight Motel is gonna break your heart.  His voice !!  Wow.  Lived in, worn, battered and bruised.

Oh my word I cant get through it as it is without crying!!

I too am seeing the film on Monday and avoiding listening to the live versions till after then. I have a feeling I may need sunglasses coming out of the cinema as blood red nose and puffy eyes isn't a good look B):(

I'm not ashamed to say that this version of MM made me well up.  Totally moved me.

The CD arrived yesterday amid workmen hammering, machines screeching and dust drifting through the house, but the beauty of the record could not be spoiled.

Love all the subtle differences to the studio recording, especially the horses who have been given back the HHHH.

Somewhere North of Nashville, Stones and Moonlight Motel strike me as especially good.

Now if it only were Monday when I will be able to see the film....!

Stones and MM should replace the usual BD/Tougher duet from now on.

Same two people, different era. Amazing.
