Original Born to Run Vinyl - "John" Landau

Recommended Posts

A/ How WAS it that on the original Born to Run vinyl LP Jon Landau's name, on the back cover, was mis-spelled as John Landau? What a mistake!
B/ How many were pressed and printed before the error was realised?
C/ How many 'got out' without the sticker being placed over John as Jon?
D/ Are they worth anything without the sticker? Surely collectors would want them?
E/ About to start looking....

Tks
Rod

But how would you know if the sticker was just peeled off ?

There must be thousand with the sticker

I got one maybe 12 years ago from backstreets

I kind of like it sat somewhere in a big pile just waiting for me to grow up

And it waited and waited and waited and waited for me to buy it

ended up just getting one on discogs for about AUD66 shipped from the US. Don't know why I have to have it but I do. Can't understand, still, why/how this happened and why it's not a semi-valuable collector item. But with the number on discogs at low-low prices, it sure ain't!

It's not just the Landau error.  There are other errors and omissions on there.

Probably not worth more than 20 pounds sterling in mint condition.

Also, the pressing of The River LP from Peru misspells Jon as John on the labels.

I still think so. I know the official lyric says "sways", but no one is going to throw a fit over it.

I'm willing to bet that for everyone singing along in concert, at least half say waves.

The original lyric on my album bought in 1975 said ‘waves.’  Which is why I and all my Bruce buds always sang ‘waves.’

It wasn’t until about 10 years ago I even gave it a thought.

I know it’s ‘sways’ but in my heart it’s ‘waves!’

If you google the lyrics, it still says ‘waves.’

“The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey, that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again, I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside, darling, you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking that maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright
Oh, and that's alright with me...

There are virtually DOZENS of misspellings found across international Springsteen vinyl releases from down the years. Portugal is the one country that must hold some kind of record in that respect though. The labels on their 7" singles include names such as "Lon Landau", "Chuck Plorkin", "Chuck Plokin", "Bruce Springsten", "Bod Clearmountain", and "Tobi Scott". Oh yeah, and "John Landau" too of course.
