This was really hard.  I eventually chose ones that, if they come on, I MUST stay in the room and listen to them.

Lines on My Face - Peter Frampton

Sweet Thing - David Bowie

Leaving on a Jet Plane - John Denver

Those Were The Days - Mary Hopkin

Solsbury Hill / In Your Eyes (tossup :D) - Peter Gabriel

Classical Gas - Mason Williams

Father and Son - Cat Stevens

Gotta See Jane - R Dean Taylor

Phasers on Stun - FM

Father Figure - George Michael

I also want to say to some of you, great choices!!!  All of my Heart by ABC, selections from Jesus Christ Superstar, Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights, Peter Sarstedt’s Where Do You Go To My Lovely  - all wonderful too.

This is hard, but I will give it a go! I did do my desert island discs several years ago, but I can't repeat that as I chose songs  for different reasons and it had two Bruce tracks.

Thunder Road

Boulder to Birmingham - Emmylou Harris

Reach Out (I'll be there) - Four Tops

Here Come Those Tears Again - Jackson Browne

You Can't Be Too Strong - Graham Parker

Over The Rainbow - Judy Garland

The Gospel of Mary - Josh Ritter (maybe doesn't fit the bill as a 'lifer' as it only came out last year, but I love it)

Forever Young - Bob Dylan (if I could sneak in the live duet with Bruce, I would!)

My Girl - Otis Redding

Going Underground -  The Jam

Love all those!

I suspect one could make up several lists and still not be done with all the "lifers"

Orion - Metallica

Cliff Burton was a genius and this is one of his finest contributions.

MOP is Metallicas finest moment and even without Burton Orion was incredible at Donington (Cant remember year) when they did the whole album.

So my list would look a lot different if I would add the most important songs for me by Swedish artists/bands.
Something like this (one song per artist/band allowed, alphabetical order):

The Ark - It takes a fool to remain sane
Björn Afzelius - Ljuset
Björns vänner - Åkrar och himmel
Broder Daniel - No time for us
Bruce Springsteen - Independence day
The Cure - Pictures of you
Håkan Hellström - Nu kan du få mig så lätt
Marit Bergman - It would have been good
Markus Krunegård - Korallreven & vintergatan
Radiohead - Fake plastic trees

......what a song ! .....Time to dig out Rum sodomy and the Lash !!!

Yeah, there's a few on there that could easily make my top 10!

For a top 10 live performance, I'd recommend Kirsty MacColl doing Miss Otis Regrets with The Irish Guards, it's on YouTube (of course!)

Ball and Chain is to Born to Run as The Promise is to Thunder Road: "You can run all your life but never go anywhere". Absolutely fantastic song.

Also picking one song from that album is difficult - was listening to Everything's on Fire last night - so good.
