Longest Show On Record Question

Recommended Posts

In light of the fact I am buying shows at live.brucespringsteen.net today, I'm here to ask, which of his 2017 tour in Australia was his longest and quite possibly world record show?   I know it was just over 4 hours yet what was the date?

Thanks,

WK

Born To Walk,

I remember watching Entertainment Tonight in 17 and learning his Australia shows, one of them broke his own record, over four hours and quite possibly a world record but I'll check out Helsinki fwiw.

A surprising comment, particularly given MCOR comes in at just under 20 minutes, and the Darlington --> We Are Alive stretch is nearly an hour-and-a-half.

Helsinki remains the longest Springsteen show on record. It's not up for debate. Anybody who claims to have seen a four-hour River show in 1980 is (a) wrong, (b) counting the intermission or (c) both.

Indeed. And the 4:06 time doesn’t include the 5 song solo acoustic set he played for the early early arrivals.

The world record for the longest show by a single artist or band belongs to a Canadian singer called Chilli Gonzalez. His longest gig clocked in at an incredible 300 song, 27hour marathon show!

I caught both Philly shows and Foxborough on our East Coast trip - what a great week.

Funny thing about Foxborough, Bruce was a little later than usual getting to the stage a little before 8 PM and the venue has a hard curfew at midnight.  We had heard Bruce was planning to play his "longest show ever" that night, but because he started late it ended up making it impossible.  During Bobby Jean (you have to watch the video closely) someone from back stage came out and spoke to him during the song.  No doubt it was someone explaining that he had to stop, so he finished that song and said goodnight.  I will ask him about it if I see him again, but I am guessing he planned one more song to end the tour, like the "Blood Brothers" moment on 7-1--2000

About 30 seconds into the song, you can see Bruce turn his back to the audience and he was listening to someone, and didn't sing for about 15 seconds - then came back to the front of the stage smiling

This list must be incomplete. Where is Tempe 1980? The DVD/BR is around 2:40 then there's another hour of "missing" songs, so that should comfortably make that list.

I had read another article that said the curfew was midnight for power down - this one says 11:30 - wondering if the difference maybe "event over at 11:30" and "lights and sound off at midnight"    Either way, Bruce broke the rules and might have broken his record longest show if he started a few minutes earlier

Thanks, but still make's no sense at all to a curfew one at that place. There isn't a residence for a 10 mile radius of that stadium.

I think MSG 19 December 1980 was sometimes said to be one of the longest shows ever, even possible longer than Nassau 31 December 1980.

All shows in November and December 1980 were very long shows; actual time of those shows sometimes different to say because of encore breaks and 'cuts and edits' and missing songs on the audience tapes; especially if the last song is not complete (and maybe even with the possibily 'the last song' was not the last song on the show, only the last song on the tape).
