Born To Walk
There’s a couple of days until the charts start coming out, and we know ‘Letter To You’ was outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined in the UK mid-week chart and seemingly destined to be No. 1 on Friday. Neither single made the Top 100. That just gives us time to have a quick look back at the chart positions for Bruce’s studio albums made since the 30th anniversary of his first album (OK 29th - see below). Seven out of eight have made No. 1 in the UK. Admittedly a high chart position doesn’t necessarily mean high sales anymore, and admittedly some of these albums were released early in the year to little opposition, however it’s still an achievement that (to my knowledge) no other artist of 30+ year vintage even comes close to matching. The Rising – No. 1 Devils & Dust – No. 1 We Shall Overcome – No. 3 Magic – No. 1 Working On A Dream – No. 1 Wrecking Ball – No. 1 High Hopes – No. 1 Western Stars – No. 1 Letter To You - TBC

Bruce Springsteen makes Official Chart history this week as he scores his 12th Number 1 album with Letter To You. Outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined, The Boss’ twentieth studio collection is the fastest-selling album of 2020 so far, with 95% of his 51,800 chart sales made up of physical and download sales. Lady Gaga’s Chromatica still holds the title for the biggest opening week overall for an album this year, debuting at Number 1 in June with 53,000 chart sales. The entry means Springsteen is the first credited solo artist to have a Number 1 album in five consecutive decades, topping the charts in the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, David Gilmour and Paul Weller have also achieved the feat, but only when including their work in groups alongside their solo material. With 12 Number 1 albums, Bruce Springsteen is now tied with Madonna for chart-topping albums – Robbie Williams and Elvis Presley are the only solo artists to have had more Number 1 albums in the UK.

GoingDown84
The german rock/punk Band "Die Ärzte" had a very good publicity: they had a short performance in a news broadcast (prime time ) on the day of the release of their new album! The official reason of their performance was to remember of so many artists and people who work for them, who are completely forgotten in the corona crisis. Here in Germany many companies are getting financial support from the government during corona, for example Lufthansa got millions of Euros! So, unfortunately Bruce had no chance 1
