What I didn't know about "Fire"

Recommended Posts

I guess everybody here knows the story about Bruce and Elvis Presley. Bruce saw him on Ed Sullivan in '58, became a life long fan, crawled over the fence at Graceland in 1975 and wrote "Fire" after he and Steve went to see Elvis in 1977. He send a demo to Elvis, but Elvis died before the demo arrived. I guess we all wondered what that song would be like when sung by The King ...

Today I stumbled onto this video: "Fire" by Joey Figgiani & The Jordanaires. Joey Figgiani is a New York based singer-songwriter. In 2004 he put out an album called "Under the Memphis sun" where he was backed on some songs by DJ Fontana (Elvis' drummer) and The Jordanaires (Elvis' backing vocal group on dozens of songs). I never knew this version existed. Maybe this is as close as it gets to hearing Elvis' version of the song?
