The Middle... Bruce in a Superbowl commercial

It’s almost a Bruce message sponsored by Jeep....... almost. But it absolutely is a Jeep commercial. And the message is not believable coming from him. He has no desire for this country to be in the middle. He’s made that clear.

For the record, I don’t care that he sells (or allows) his stuff or himself to be used for commercial uses. I do get a kick out of people rationalizing it as not what it is though. He’s just a guy, like every other guy.

Jeep do make beautiful commercials

I would have preferred Bruce driving the Jeep through the 'middle' with this attached to it.

I heard a rumor that there is a follow up commercial if Brady wins the superbowl

Bruce exits the church to find his tyres have been deflated :)

he calls AAA and the tow truck driver is brady

:D

He won't need a tow truck

Hopefully he kitted out that CJ with its own onboard air

We used to use dive bottles

When he did the hall of fame speech for U2 he said that he had been surprised that  "his" guys had accepted Apple money for an ad. Until he learned that they were giving the money away, as far as I recall.

Is he giving the money away?

Why is Bruce taking a shot of alcohol and then driving the Jeep? Not very clever to combine alcohol and driving a car. What a bumper this commercial.

I did think that was a bit odd

Perhaps its the day and he isn't planning on any more driving

A singer but not singing...

This continues a Chrysler tradition of pop singers (plus Clint Eastwood).

The spot is a blend of monologue like SOB and Western Stars the Film (plus that hat) with the snow of Letter to You.

The Middle: Just as the geographic center moved westward over the course of the nation's history, the policy middle has moved ever leftward over the course of my life. The left fringe of '72 McGovern is the "middle" of Mr. Sundown 2021.

Then: Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet

Now: That little blue pill, the credit card, and Jeep

Same reason he preaches on his radio show about wearing a mask, then shares a microphone on Saturday Night Live to sell more records.

I didn't even notice. I am surprised Jeep would let that through.

I like it though since there should be nothing wrong with taking a shot of alcohol and then driving a Jeep - unless you weigh under 80 pounds in which case you should not drive a Jeep anyway.

Mebbies he's outside the Moonlight Motel.

It's evening, he's finished driving for the day - enjoying a tipple.

So Gary has watched the add

Remembering he can't see very good right now.

He obviously was unfamilar of Bruce's speaking voice (we never made it to SOB :() but he knows what he looks like

Any way it took him a while to click

I stod behind him so i wouldn't give it away with all my excitment:D

When the 'orce showed up Gary asked was that the new model ?

Then he kept asking where are all the Jeeps ?

I pointed out the Willys but its hard to see for a person even with good eye sight

But he was impressed it was a Willys

Then he said "is that HIS speaking voice?

They must have paid mega bucks for him? "

I said that's his Jeep (Gary kinda really liked the idea of Bruce's big garage full of older American cars that he still actually drives around )

Then when it was over Gary said

"So where are the Jeeps ?

And what was that all about ?"

See from down here our fascination with superbowl adds is what they look like and how much they  cost to broadcast - Gary likes the Budweiser ones with the horses

I said its about closing the devide in America - meeting in the middle and reuniting the united states -( i mean its not like Gary doesn't watch the news )

To which Gary said "piss off!"

To the whole touchy feely message thing  (not me;))

He wanted 4x4ing

But i personally count this as a (huge) win :):D:P

Gary  watching a current Bruce video ! He hasn't done that since the WB album

This add just took on classic iconic status for me.:D

Bruce + Jeep =

I told Gary Bruce turned down $10 million back in 1985

He didn't think that was odd or not to now do a Jeep add

Gary knows Bruce is democrat, he's seen him with Mr Obama, Hillary and now Mr Biden

Look this aint Electric Nebraska but now im over the shock I'm  ganna lap up the Bruce/Jeep eye candy shot  in America the beautiful  !

What isn't there to love !

@gus, grab the car keys and WS and  let's go out for a drive !

When working for a non American company (Fiat, Turin, Italy) you should question what the middle of the USA is.

As of 2010 census Plato Missouri is the center of population.

Should we read pass, his first commercial is for a non USA company?

Politically we will only be in the middle when we all move to the far left.

It is often a conversation point in this house - who owns Jeep ?

They have been sold so many times, they are like a cat with 9 lives but each time more and more Anerican workers loose their jobs and more and more components become inferior as new stable mates use each other's foreign made parts

Well they closed down the auto plant in Mahwah late that month
Ralph went out lookin' for a job but he couldn't find none
He came home too drunk from mixin' Tanqueray and wine
He got a gun shot a night clerk now they call'm Johnny 99

Still love the add though ;)

Cultural references[edit]

The geographic center of the contiguous United States is mentioned in Neil Gaiman's American Godsas a neutral ground where the modern and the old gods can meet despite the war between them.

In the 1969 Disney movie The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, the final question of the quiz bowl is 'What is the geographic center of the contiguous United States?' The answer of Lebanon, Kansas is accepted as correct.

A 2021 Jeep Super Bowl commercial, The Middle, with Bruce Springsteen features the U.S. Center Chapel in Lebanon, Kansas.[12]

Not to be confused with the other centre in south dakota

The geographic center of the United States is a point approximately 20 mi (32 km) north of Belle Fourche, South Dakotaat 44°58′2.07622″N 103°46′17.60283″W. It has been regarded as such by the U.S. National Geodetic Survey (NGS) since the additions of Alaska and Hawaii to the United States in 1959.

A friend gave me this line today: “If Bruce Springsteen thinks he’s in the middle of this country then his map must be cutoff at eastern Hawaii.”
