Granted, I haven't watched much of the Olympics - today's the only morning I've had it on - but I never heard anything about the USA team after the dressage.

I obviously haven't been paying attention ... too busy binge-watching ER.

Ah ER. That really takes me back. I'm binge watching Criminal Minds.

Order of go for tonight (tomorrow 6am GMT-5 / 11am GMT) is set. 19 teams of 3, 57 riders to start. The rotation stays set, so the US goes 13 / 32 / and 51. Jess rides middle for the US, and McLain Ward comes in to ride anchor.

UK-based Horse & Hound calculated the start times for the Team GB riders, who happen to immediately follow the US ones. So they estimate the rider AFTER Jess is at ~12:30 GMT, so she's a few minutes in front of that. The rider she precedes, young Harry Charles, is the son of Peter Charles, who was part of the gold medal team at London 2012. After that event, Peter sold his horse Vindicat W to ... Jessica ;)

Today was just the vet inspection before tomorrow's team first round. I haven't found any reports online yet as to whether there were any issues. Meanwhile, I did find this article about the first inspection, with pictures. Essentially it's a back and forth in front of the committee of vets to see if they spot anything that calls into question the soundness of the horse to compete. Just a walk and a trot is needed - trot gait shows up leg issues really quickly ;) For eventing they did one inspection before the dressage phase, and a second after cross-country but before the show jumping. For show jumping, one before individual, and one before team. Some competitors really dress for the occasion - both themselves AND their horses, especially braids in the mane :)

According to this, 3 horses from the individual were "not presented" for the team vet check - Kilkenny/Cian O'Connor of Ireland (the Irish team looked quite strong, now Shane Sweetnam based here in Florida comes in as the reserve), Jefferson/Scott Brash of Team GB (Holly Smith enters as the first Team GB rider today), and As De Mai/Mike Kawai of Japan (I think Koki Saito is their reserve coming in).

(If the individual competition had been a team competition we would already have Swedish gold, but I guess we’ll just have to wait until Saturday;))

Three clear rounds, and the fastest combined time in qualifying. You must be clear favourites.

20 minute break before the final riders for each team. First, Team GB withdraws after disappointing rides for each of their first two. Save the horse :) France leads on 2 time faults, then Belgium/US/Sweden are tied on 4 faults with Sweden 0.20 seconds faster than US, which is 2.84 seconds ahead of Belgium.
