Yes, I guess The Who stopped smashing up their instruments on stage because it could no longer compete with the spectacle of Bruce throwing out a photographer!

I love the story in the book of Bruce seeing The Who and being inspired enough to look for something to smash on stage

A vase of flowers off a school teacher nun's desk :D

A hell raiser he was never distended to be beyound just the music (and dancing on pianos while shirtless)

That version of Before The Deluge on No Nukes is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

I'd never heard this version before, and only learnt of this song because of one of Bruce's radio shows last year.

I've now played this about 5 times tonight. Thank you for mentioning it!

Apologies but I have some issues with your post. Sorry about all the questions.

Why, if Brucie doesn't show us something we all already know about on DVD, is he rewriting his history?

Since day one? Bruce was around way before these two nights.

Even Dave Marsh, significant. Really? When was Dave Marsh significant?

You didn't know about the stretcher skit?  Now you have a hard on with the video and what is assumed that will be shown?

"With hindsight we may have been able to say it was possibly due to his mental illness..." wtf are you talking about? We?

Bruce is a famous musician but also a person. His personal life and how he feels at any particular time is not ours to own or lose respect over.

This shite boils my piss. Never read so much bollocks on here in all my puff.

Lose all the respect you want. If you feel the need to answer please don't. I don't care.

So many questions, so little time.   :-)

Yeah that was something I had a wry smile about whilst reading about the cake and the L G episode - it's hardly Who, Stones, Sex Pistols territory is it! ha!..........even the look on his (and her) face in the photo as he is escorting her from the pit doesn't really suggest any "real" anger!!?.........the whole thing is just very slightly blown out of proportion IMHO

In the Dave Marsh Two Heart Biography about the No Nukes (latest edition 2004): "The only additional request Springsteen made was that the concert’s official photographer, Lynn Goldsmith, not shoot his shows. Lynn and Bruce had had a romance during the 1978 tour during which time Goldsmith took a great many photos of the performer. Then they broke up. So before the shows, Bruce called Lynn and said that while he understood her desire to be involved with MUSE, he hoped that she’d understand that he didn’t want her shooting his sets. Goldsmith agreed." ..........

d14p089.jpg.6273960d494df526659440e2df630107.jpg

....... But then there is Bob Leafe, he made this picture and posted it on his website with next comment about this picture: "Around the time of the 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' album, Lynn, a MAJOR music photographer, was Bruce's girlfriend and tour photographer. After their breakup, Bruce supposedly had an agreement with her that she was not to photograph him anymore. During his No Nukes performance, Bruce spots something, suddenly leaves the stage and plucks secretly-shooting Lynn from the 12th row, escorts her up onto the stage, where someone else escorts her down the back steps and out the door. While this is occurring, everyone is standing around, going 'Who IS that'? I knew who it was and fired away. This shot was published in a Springsteen book".

"NOTE - April 19, 2011:
I have received an email from Lynn today that states the following: "I was not his tour photographer, nor was I asked by Bruce not to be there that night or not to shoot him in his performance." This is why I used the word "supposedly" when I wrote this back in 2003."

Wow, I tend to believe more the side of Lynn Goldsmith, so Dave Marsh is rocking the boat or is at least misformed about  Lynn Goldsmith and that is where his bad reputation regarding the facts comes from? Whatever, I have posted a few excerpts from his Two Hearts biography on this forsaken forum in the last few weeks. Some facts maybe not right, but I dare you to find a better description of the Seeds and Roulette songs he described in his Springsteen book. He might be a tendentious biographer, but a bonafide and superperb rock critic who not only wrote about Springsteen but about a lot of other singers and songs.

Wow …. The second show was my first bootleg! I was 11 and my neighbor had it on a record - as time went on, I discovered he did shows that went over three hours haha

I was pumped when NUGS gave us the audio but I’m even more excited for this video, although I was never a big videoleg guy …. (FYI: However if anyone ever finds an ENTIRE professionally shot Fall 84 show - please let me know).

Whats amazing - is when I look at all the other artists that participated in this project - they ALL have hit songs besides our boys!!! You younger folks wouldn’t understand but in those days - there were no Music Videos! So, if you didn’t hear someone on those piece of shit radios from the 1970’s - then the only way you saw your favorite artists face was in a magazine or on an album cover! Therefore, the band’s reputation as a live act was already FAR in place!!

That’s the power of live music!!!

Brad

PS: Enough nostalgia - Bring on the 2022 LTY Tour!!

What I do find interesting is that in the early 80s (pre BITUSA) LG published a book of Bruce photos with all the proceeds going to (I think) Save The Children. Presumably they had made up by this point. Let's not forget that MUSE was a charitable event, too.

I could listen to Jackson singing the phone book!  Seen him a few times live, last one being the Royal Albert Hall in 2017 from the second row - this was third song of the night. Hope to see him again!?

Have the two shows been taken down from Nugs? I couldn't find them earlier. Although that doesn't mean anything as the Nugs site search engine sucks.

They've been removed. That was what first alerted us to the fact that something was stirring.

Springsteen - Photographed by Lynn Goldsmith, first published in September 1984. My copy was published by Sidgewick and Jackson in the UK, and then printed in Italic: Half of the author's royalties from this book are being donated to Save the Children

If memory serves me right, the Springsteen camp was upset about the book being published but little they could do about it. If you take a look, some pictures are taken inside his Homdel NJ house and quite intimate and this was 1984, we all know what kind of control freak Springsteen was  http://www.matthijsjanssen.nl/2013/04/bruce-springsteen-1978.html

Wow.  I never knew that Bruce was annoyed.  I guess if LG holds the copyright and they were taken with his consent then it makes sense.  I bet he didn't complain about the risque one revealing his phallus in his jeans.

He probably saw the cover picture… Lynn could have chosen one in which both eyes belonged to the same person… ;)
