I am not much of a podcast girl, but am very much a book girl.

Despite that, I did listen to every minute of the Renegades podcast and there really aren't any words that cover how profoundly it moved me.

Needless to say, I pre-ordered, something else that is out-of-the-ordinary for me these days. If I can't get it from one of my e-libraries, and it's not a reference book, I don't read it.

On the plus side, this will very much be a reference book for me. And so much more.

I thought the podcasts were great. But I am a big Barack fan as well as Bruce reading A Promised Land by Barack. Dare I say it much better written than Bruce's book

...well the  man was president of the United States

Usually a high marker

And he was a lawyer of some high fowllotting type

Does one do English papers at university to go to law school ?

$500 is insane, but some people will pay it. More likely the fat bankers he likes to complain about and not the blue collar fans he sings about.

That’s funny. The plaid shirt kind of loses its grungy/blue colorness when it’s custom fit and tailored by a high end haberdasher.

Does anybody know how many of these limited edition there are? I can imagine that these will be worth a lot of money in 30 or 40 years time.

Can you imagine finding a book on your parents shelf, signed by Elvis Presley and JFK? What would that be worth in 2021?

There is a full page article in The Morning Star today about Bruce and Obama...I have not read it yet ( been a bit busy !) but assume it is about the book.

If any of you serious collectors want the copy, let me know.

I don't know how much the Morning star is available on line

Interesting article related to the Obama book. Awaiting the midterms elections next year to see if that might be true ...

"When Springsteen played a McGovern benefit (in 1972), the Democrats were reliably supported by white working class voters, and the Republicans were the party of big business and the affluent. In the last 30 years, there’s been a significant inversion of class affiliation, culminating in Trump’s election; in 2016, white voters without college degrees favored Trump 64% to 28% over Clinton, and 65% voted for him in 2020, when they comprised 42% of the total electorate. The characters in Springsteen songs — the disillusioned Vietnam vet, the guy who makes his money racing in the streets — they’re likely Trump supporters now. If the Democrats lose the House in the midterm elections next year, it will largely be because the people who most resemble his characters no longer believe the same things he does"

That is an interesting point of view. I can relate that to the situation in Belgium, where you have the same shift in political views. It is off course different because we have a multi-party system and two main language groups (Dutch speaking and French speaking). Right now we have 7 party's in our federal government :-).

In general, in the '60's, '70's and '80's, the left wing party's (socialist party, green party) mainly had voters coming from the working class. The right wing party's (liberals, nationalist party) had higher educated, 'upper class' voters. But since the '90's, this started to shift. In fact, almost to this day 30 years ago, on November 24th 1991, the extreme-right party made a breakthrough in the elections and that started the shift.

Now you have a lot of working class, inhabitants of the big cities, voting for the right wing party's and the left wing voters are the more high educated with good jobs who live out on the countryside.

Did anyone here get a copy of the signed deluxe edition? What do the autographs look like? Are they put on the inside of the cover somewhere like when a regular author signs a book? Or is there a special page in the book for the autographs?

Are there other special things about the deluxe edition that the normal book doesn't have?

I am that demographic and i am trying to write this post respectful to greasy lake's no politics rules

Gary is that demographic

My parents who where both born durring WW2 2 were that demographic also, thankfully for my dad Vietnam was on a voluntary basis here

But both my dad and Gary have trade qualifications so they are not uneducated

I know a lot of dumb people who have been to university

Anyway there has always been working class people who voted right wing

I am and always have been  a lot of those people Bruce sings about despite being right wing

We still beleave in some of the same things

But people are all different ....now here is where im not allowed to elaborate...

But Bruce has acknowledged his own dear mom voted republican (probably the last time she was able to vote)

Liberals do not own Bruce Springsteen fandom

And us 'righties'  are not all Ronnie Reagan's trying to use his lyrics without understanding the rest of the song

And Collectively we probably paid for a fare few of those 'orses and JLM and Sony records know that and Bruce definatly knows that
