MOJO The Collectors’ Series

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: Glory Days 1949-2021

MOJO is delighted to bring together its finest writing on Bruce Springsteen in a deluxe bookazine.

One of the true rock greats, Bruce Springsteen has captured the experience of contemporary American life better than any other artist. Since 1973, his songs have taken us on an exhilarating road trip through the darkness and light of his nation’s psyche, more often than not powered by the mighty rock’n’roll bluster of his beloved E Street Band. To salute the man known as ‘The Boss’, MOJO has assembled this sumptuous 132-page volume, featuring all the magazine’s major interviews with Springsteen down the years, plus a wealth of archive stories and rare and iconic images.

GLORY DAYS 1949-2021 begins with a fascinating account of two encounters with Bruce, in 1973 and 1974, when the singer’s future was uncertain and he was finding it hard to pay the E Street Band’s wages. Springsteen and the group then tell the story of how their fortunes changed dramatically with 1975’s Born To Run album, which brought international acclaim and introduced to the world a collection of colourful characters, inspired by the singer’s blue-collar New Jersey background.

MOJO’s Phil Sutcliffe profiles Bruce’s much-misinterpreted mid-’80s triumph Born In The USA, while David Fricke writes about the ‘quieter’ follow-up, 1987’s Tunnel Of Love, as well as Springsteen’s most recent album, Western Stars. In between are in-depth interviews by Mark Hagen and Keith Cameron, conducted respectively at Bruce’s home in New Jersey and in New York City, shedding light on every aspect of his extraordinary life and career. As The Clash’s Joe Strummer declared in a fax sent to MOJO in 1995, “We love Springsteen!”

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: Glory Days 1949-2021 is available from September 2, 2021.

If they describe Western Stars as his most recent album, doesn’t say much for editorial quality control

Did they? I think I'll buy a copy of it (if it's released in Sweden yet, I don't know), but it kinda sucks if they're that lazy.

I wouldn't, it's nothing we haven't read before.

I actually went and looked for it today, but couldn't find it. I did however buy Uncut's latest Van Morrison special, and that looks pretty cool, so I'm happy anyway.

They did a McCartney one recently... Twinned with a Lennon one.

All the Collectors Mojo mags are old articles, that's what it says on the tin, that's what it does on the inside.

They are always a good read if you're into that kind of thing.
