Someone has placed a regular bid in the meantime. "Buy It Now" price was a stunning $75!

Thanks Peter!

I have asked him to consider international shipping :)

So I've picked up. Devils & Dust on eBay, th seller, with exceptional feedback says when cleaning the record he has found marks and the sound isn't great. Sent me this message

"hi,today as i was cleaning the record on the professional cleaning machine, i found out that under a strong light there were on both vinyls some kind of"traces"..not marks, not scratches, they look more like traces of humidity or, as i thought also, like the taking in and out of the record off the sleeve to listen to it. but that wasn't possible as the records come from a shop that closed down, the record was open but like many other records coming from that shop are in spotless mint conditions.so i briefly listen on my technics 2100 record player to few seconds of the songs and you hear some crackles underneath, more like electrostatic noise.you hear it on the most quiet songs.so i checked my personal copy of devils and there are the same strange signs.i think it's a kind of bad quality pressing as now the vinyl it's not 100% pure.as i want you to be satisfied about this record, shall i send it to you anyway (but being quite expensive..) or shall we cancel the transaction? let me know"

What do you peeps think? Thinking ill probably go through with purchase as I'll never play the record anyway

Sounds like the seller is genuine and acting in good faith. I have no problems with my playing copy.

Presumably you agreed the price on the basis that the record was mint. On that basis it should be perfect. It isn't, as it has both visual and sonic imperfections.

To my mind you should either cancel as he offers, or if you wish to proceed you should look for a discount. The record in Ex+ condition as this sounds is still very valuable and maybe a discount of 25-30% might be fair. You could always ask the seller to suggest a level of discount and see what you're offered.

Cheers, that's what I'm thinking. Basically he is sayin he record has marks, some of which need to look close to see. He said before he can offer a discount because he is selling for someone else. I've got no doubt he is genuine, so I've asked for a discount on either the record or the postage. It's not something that's happened to me before.

As an aside, it's the second of the 4 vinyls I'm chasing Got The Promise two weeks ago. Also hunting GOTJ and Rising, but bloody hell, some copies of the rising can cos you!

Me too.....

Best price I've seen this box set going for in a long time - I hope the high bidder is a fellow Record Machinist.

Not me either :(

It might be a good price, but still too steep for me.

I don't get it. While many other, much lesser items have changed hands for incomprehensively outrageous prices on eBay recently, a true gem like this just manages to fetch slightly over 125 bucks..??

But if it was a fellow Record Machinist, we should be very happy that someone got a real bargain.

Of course. My post was just meant as a remark on how strange this whole "collectors' market" has become. Congrats from me too!

Agreed. My interpretation is simple, that is, there are too many to follow these days.

On relation to this topic, recently, two copies of "THE RIVER" US 2LP were put on eBay auction by different sellers. These are the LP of questionable value that was mentioned on this thread before, with the uncommon "CBS Special Products" labels and supposed to be very early pressing according to matrix numbers. What I want to mention is the fact that one copy was bought at $400.00 (via "Buy It Now" option) while the other costed only $4.99.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CBS-Special-Products-lbl-BRUCE-SPRINGSTEEN-The-River-2-LP-original-4th-known-/171095567045?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item27d6172ac5

By the way, does anyone see before this "Special" label used on CBS/Columbia LP other than this particular Springsteen title?
