Bruce opens the show with a comment regarding a racial controversy in Cincinnati:

"We've been contacted by several organizations in the city who are trying to combat the segregation, economic Apartheid and racism that exists, not just here in Cincinnati but everywhere in our country. As a young man I saw it up close in my own hometown. While there have been many improvements since then the core fact of racism continues to this day at all levels of our society.

I wrote a song a couple of years ago about what happens when we stop communicating with one another and when that noncommunication becomes systematic; what happens when that injustice becomes ingrained and institutional: the consequences, the violence, the human cost, the lives lost that comes with it. I want to open our show with that song tonight, not just for Cincinnati, but for the country we'd like to see our children grow up in. We send it out to the people and organizations in the city that are working for a just Cincinnati and a just America."
