Howard wrote: I was an incoming freshman at the school that autumn of 1974. The concert was a free picnic with music for anyone who wanted to attend. I had never heard of Bruce Springsteen before and I along with many other people really did not pay particular attention to the music. I assume that there were people who had heard of him and for whom the music that day was more important. I can only speculate on what songs were played. However, I have been a big fan of Bruce's since then, first paying for a concert of his the following year, at the same school, a concert during the Born to Run tour. He was so popular that there was a lottery for seats in the theater (a rather small venue - 900 seats) and I was lucky enough to get front row tickets.

John Hillock wrote: Incoming freshman ... Got there late .. No food//no beer ... Smoked a joint .. listened to a very loud band .. got hungry ...We left ... Why is youth wasted on the young ???
(Saw b & the band dozens of times though--before and after this picnic)

Ed wrote: I have talked about this concert for years. I was a junior in college and had followed Bruce for a couple of years. I remember Sept. 22, 1974 as a beautiful day in Union NJ. Free beer. free hotdogs, free music and not very well attended (considering it was The Boss). We sat maybe 15 feet from the stage. Within a very short period of time after his tour, Bruce became an international icon.
