April 22 2008

After being postponed for a few days due to Danny Federici's death, the tour continues in Tampa, Florida. The Tampa show ranks among the best and most emotional of Bruce's career. Starting out with a video tribute to Danny, the show goes on to contain seven songs from 1975 or before and a beautiful version of the Albert E. Brumley hymn "I'll Fly Away".

May 7 2008

Three days after ending the spring leg of the North American tour, Bruce and the band perform a benefit show at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank. The show marks the first time Bruce has played one of his albums start to finish. In fact, he does two albums start to finish: Darkness on the Edge of Town and Born to Run.

May 22-25 2008

Bruce and the band are back in Europe for an extensive outdoor summer tour starting with three sold-out shows in Dublin.

May-July 2008

The European tour covers 12 countries with 23 shows. As the tour progresses Bruce loosens up the setlist more and more and introduces a request section where he collects signs from the audience and plays several of their wishes, including rarely performed gems from the back-catalogue.

July-August 2008

The Magic Tour's final leg starts at Giants Stadium, NJ, on July 27, and ends with a wild show at the annual Harley-Davidson Festival in Milwaukee, where Danny Federici's son Jason makes a guest appearance. Rumored fall shows never materialize and the Magic Tour is put to rest.

September 5 2008

A new Springsteen song, "The Wrestler", is heard for the first time during the Venice Film Festival in Italy. The song is included in a new movie by Darren Aronofsky starring Bruce's friend Mickey Rourke.

October 4-November 2 2008

Bruce performs at five political rallies in support of Barack Obama's presidential candidacy. For the last one in Cleveland he debuts a new song that wil become the title song of his next album, "Working on a Dream". Obama himself is present at this show and follows Bruce's performance with a speech.

November 17 2008

Just a couple of months after wrapping up his last tour, Bruce announces the release of a new album called Working on a Dream.
