The Bruce Springsteen Timeline

October 29-30 2009

Bruce performs at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame anniversary show at Madison Square Garden. With the E Street Band as backing band, he plays with several other musical legends: Sam Moore, John Fogerty, Billy Joel, Darlene Love and Tom Morello. On the second night, Bruce guests with U2 for "Because the Night" in a duet with Patti Smith.

November 7-8 2009

Only about a week after playing at the same venue for the Hall of Fame shows, Bruce is back at Madison Square Garden for two regular tour shows. The first one sees the first and only full performance of The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle on the tour, including horn and string sections, while show number two is a marathon featuring the only performance of the entire River album. Both shows immediately gain legendary status.

November 22 2009

The Working on a Dream Tour ends with a show in Buffalo, NY, featuring the one and only full album performance of Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ. After extensive touring for the better part of 2½ years, Bruce announces that the band will now take a break. This will be the last regular show that Clarence Clemons performs in.

December 6 2009

Bruce receives the Kennedy Center Honors in a ceremony in Washington DC. Bruce himself and President Obama are both present at the event, which includes performances of Springsteen's music by Sting, John Mellencamp, Jennifer Nettles and Melissa Etheridge.

December 16-17 2009

The band may be on a touring break, but they get back together in Asbury Park for one weekend to do a live performance of the Darkness on the Edge of Town album to be included on the upcoming Darkness re-release. The performance takes place at the Convention Hall and is done in more or less secrecy without an audience.

Spring 2010

Bruce is generally laying low - partly due to depression, as described in his 2016 autobiography - but does appear at several benefit shows, including the 10th Light of Day show, Gateway's Gala Benefit Concert, and not least the surreal Rainforest Benefit, where he is part of a lineup including Elton John and Lady Ga Ga and does the first Bryan Adams cover of his career: "Cuts Like a Knife".

June 22 2010

The London Calling - Live in Hyde Park DVD/Blu-ray is released.

August 26 2010

After literally years of rumors and speculation, a press release announces the release of a Darkness on the Edge of Town box set.

September 14 2010

Bruce, Patti and Jon Landau show up at the Toronto Film Festival where The Promise documentary is shown to the world for the first time. Bruce sits down for a press conference and a conversation with his friend Edward Norton in front of an audience.

November 12-16 2010

The long-awaited Darkness box set The Promise is released worldwide.
