January 28 1985

"Dancing in the Dark" wins Bruce his first Grammy Award for best pop/rock single, but he is not in attendance himself.

January 28-29 1985

Bruce participates in the "We Are the World" recording session.

February 28 1985

Bruce wins most categories in which he is eligible in Rolling Stone's annual poll.

March 21 1985

Bruce and the band perform their first show in Australia. The show is the first of eight shows Down Under. This is also the place where he receives the first bad press of the tour when Australian journalists write about being pushed away by Bruce's bodyguards during the band's arrival in the airport.

March 31 1985

The show in Brisbane, Australia, is the band's first real outdoor stadium show.

April 4-22 1985

The band heads to Tokyo for their first shows in "The Land of the Rising Sun". They play eight shows there.

May 13 1985

Back in the States again, Bruce marries actress Julianne Philips in a private ceremony in Oregon.

June 1 1985

The European leg of the tour commences at Slane Castle in Dublin, Ireland, a huge outdoor park area where upward of 100,000 people attend. Bruce, not used to playing under those circumstances, brings the show to frequent halts to calm people down. The show is a good example of the Brucemania going through Europe this summer.

July 4 1985

On Independence Day the band performs one of three shows for 70,000 people at London's Wembley Stadium. The show opens with an acoustic "Independence Day" and is later blessed with the appearance of Steve Van Zandt, now known as Little Steven.

August 5 1985

The final leg of the Born in the USA Tour is a stretch of stadium shows in the US, beginning in Washington DC.
